Obviously after the first couple times he would build up a tolerance.

If you start taking small bullets to the head, you can build up a tolerance to taking larger bullets to the head.

One of my best friends has a mild shellfish allergy. He swells up and turns red, but it's not bad enough to require an EpiPen. On multiple occasions, I have seen him go nuts at a shellfish buffet until he balloons up and looks like a tomato, then he pops a Benadryl and sleeps it off.

Personally, I hate shellfish. Especially the smell of it. So I lie to people and tell them I am allergic, so they shut the fuck up about getting me to try it.

I farmed shellfish for six years. I do not eat shellfish. I mean, more power to you, but at least cook the little shits, for everyone's sake.

Funny but I dunno if I buy it tbh, using an EpiPen alone is a medical emergency requiring medical attention. It's not something you can just shake off.

Depends on the severity of the allergy. Sometimes epipens are prescribed for people who have a risk of anaphylaxis but have never actually experienced it. Which means that people doing this are still tremendously stupid, but not unbelievable.

I'm probably wrong, but maybe microdosing could help you not die from 5% crab. But you gotta do it with a doctor, and it can be expensive. On the upside, you could get so sick of eating crab that you won't need to worry about your allergy again.

Immunotherapy for allergies uses literally microscopic doses of allergens to avoid triggering a reaction. It’s not really possible to consume an amount small enough to get the same effect.

Have you considered immune tolerance therapy for your allergies or does it not apply in your case?

Flat-out lacking evidence & ignoring immunology, shitty guidelines in the UK & US to avoid exposure pretty much proliferated severe allergies uncommon elsewhere in the world.
The peanut allergy study is only one example.
For some allergies, there are therapies to safely reintroduce exposure & rebuild tolerance.

For your final immune test you will be submerged in a tank filled with a mixture of lobster bisque and peanut butter.

Allergists can work magic now with micro dosing. My kid's peanut allergy is just gone.

If you have the means and the desire, it's called LDA (low dose allergen) therapy. It's sometimes also called SLIT (sub-lingual immuno therapy). There's probably differences. I'm not a doctor.

would SLUT therapy work too? 🥺

Fr though, I never liked most seafood, only the crab. If I can get most of the crab back I'll be happy, I don't see a need to pay for therapy for food I don't really enjoy 90% of.

this is unironically my plan for tomorrow night.

Im allergic to shellfish and I discovered imitation crab from a meme (fittingly on Lemmy) which is only like 5% actual crab.

However, my allergy started as a kid and just got worse and worse till I eventually couldn't eat it at all anymore, it's been like 5 years.

Since we don't know if the allergy got to deadly levels in that time, I have to be around an epi-pen when I eat it.
My brother in law has one, so I'm going to his house after work.

                        I'll keep you updated 🫡

edit, update 1: finished work for the day. headed to brother in laws house in about an hour! super excited.

                        edit 2: im so upset.

they were frozen last night so I actually left them to thaw overnight. I mentioned to my sister about how people said to microdoce it, so I only warmed up 1 in the microwave with some butter just in case I had a bad reaction.
When I ate it the texture was super chewy and slimy almost, not very fun. The flavor was hardly the real thing, and the worst part: IT GAVE ME A HEADACHE.
I am so distrought. My hopes were so high. it let me down:((

I might try microdoceing a quarter before bed or something for a couple weeks. Since it is only a headache I feel like I can work myself up to bigger parts - if I can sleep through the headaches that is.

at the end of the day It was a nice try and I'm glad I tried it 😕

I'm allergic to cucumbers and even if I just touch the flesh of a cucumber to my lips, my lips well up. I'm not sure how much less dosage I could give myself.

Also it's cucumber so who the hell cares anyway.

It's why you always always spin the chamber going up against a saurian when lead is on the line.

My ex housemate used to be allergic to dairy, not deathly though.

He'd still eat a full pizza every friday to himself, then spend a few hours throwing up in the toilet.

                                    Was worth it apparently

My brother built tolerance to shellfish overtime, never had a severe reaction though, maybe that could explain it.
