It’s not rare for the first company to bring a product to market to not be the top dog once other companies get involved.

Except Tesla wasn't the first mass market EV. It wasn't even the second. The first would be the GM EV1 in 1997:

Many would argue that the EV1 doesn't count because it was on old technology. Fine then, the Nissan Leaf from 2009 then sporting its lithium battery:

Tesla Model S brought performance, range and styling that both of those were missing. However, we don't need Tesla anymore in the world if Musk is still benefiting from it.

The Flocken Elektrowagen is a four-wheeled electric car designed by Andreas Flocken (1845–1913), manufactured in 1888 by Maschinenfabrik A. Flocken in Coburg. It is regarded as the first real electric car.

Unless he steps down as CEO and sells all his shares I don't see a Tesla redemption arc in Europe anytime soon.

Even then it’s a shitty company, cause look how long they’ve tolerated him for.

There is precedent for a car brand started by a Nazi successfully shaking that image eventually

Europeans still aren't buying Teslas with figures out Wednesday showing sales plunged for a fifth month in a row in May, a blow to investors who had hoped anger toward Elon Musk would have faded by now.

Tesla sales fell 28% last month in 30 European countries even as the overall market for electric vehicles expanded sharply, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association. The poor showing comes after Tesla's billionaire CEO had promised a “major rebound” was coming last month, adding to a recent buying frenzy among investors.

They were selling on Wednesday, pushing the prices down more than 4% in early afternoon trading.

I read Musk fired the Tesla manager for Europe and North America over the low sales, as if those weren't a direct result of Musk's own actions. Like there is only one person responsible for pushing the stupid cybertruck and for associating the brand with fascism.

From the wiki, and I'm simplifying:
VW was handed over to the German government after being offered free-of-charge to Ford in 1948 by the British government (who ran the factory up till then).
In 1946 the produced 1000 cars per month.
In 1949, 2 cars were sold in the US.
In 1952, 12 VWs were sold in Canada.
In 1955 they produced over 1 million Beetles.

So 3 years on life support being ran by the British. Dunno how long being run by the German government before becoming GmbH.

Don't you know that he's a genius and none of what he says or does can have any bad consequence? If it's not because of him, it must be because of someone else. Oh, BTW: he also fired a manager in Tesla who voiced against him damaging the brand name.

That would also tank the stock price though.

Sooner or later, the stock price will tank. It's actually quite something that it is still that high, if anyone needed anymore proof that stock investors are not smarter than average Joe.

But Tesla sales are crashing worldwide, not just because of the brand, but because competition has caught up and is now getting ahead. Robo-taxis are going to compete with players that are years ahead on self-driving and safety concerns are going to force Tesla to trim down their price (assuming they manage to no longer need their "safety monitors", in which cas they will just not happen).

Humanoid robots are a tool that needs to find a use justifying its price (and there again, we might see competition from China…).

                        What's left??

Some of them may quietly have the same political view as him, and at worse, most of them don't care about his views. Their failure to understand the rest of the world does mind just show that they're not half as smart as they think, and they're totally disconnected from the normal world.

Detroit Electric from 1907 then. They produced 13 000 units in ~30 years. Obviously small numbers compared to today, but mass produced models anyway.

He has irreversibly associated Nazism with Tesla at the same time that cheaper and better electric vehicles are coming out of China. The only way is down and that's not going to change until he is no longer part of Tesla and a lot of time has passed.

So, we should be sending people to prison? Cause that's what happened to people involved in dieselgate. Along with the affected cars being recalled and the owners compensated.

Even European brands like Polestar belong to Chinese companies by a large share. But yes, German car manufacturers were asleep at the wheel and now they even lobby against the combustion engine ban because they would be left with near zero business.

And if he does step down as CEO and sell his shares, the stock will tank anyhow. The only reason it's currently about 100x over its realistic value is that people bought into the idea that Elon was this genius who was going to... well who knows. Nothing he could have done would have justified that valuation.

So, we should be sending people to prison? Cause that's what happened to people involved in dieselgate. Along with the affected cars being recalled and the owners compensated.

                                          Yeah, that actually might work

Of course, Elon would have to be rid of his Tesla shares also
