What small (under 6.2") smartphone should I get?
-
I am looking for a new phone and I would like to get one that I can comfortably fit in one hand. I currently have the pixel 4a 5G, which has a 6.2" display. I'm not looking at folding phones since they are much larger when open.
Smartphones I've looked at:
- Sony Xperia lineup: out of stock everywhere
- Asus Zenfone 10: great size, but very expensive and out of stock in a lot of places
- Pixel 9a: big-ish
- pixel 8a: seems fine, supports grapheneos which is nice
Can anyone suggest any other options or an opinion on what I should go with?
Pixel then put GrapheneOS on it

No suggestions but an opinion on the Sony Xperia line. If size is the most important factor keep in mind that the "long" aspect ratio makes it awkward to hold for its size and may have more trouble fitting into pockets than other small phones. If you don't mind the lack of sd/headphone jack a Pixel is probably better.

I used Xperias for years going back to the original Z compact, Only reason I switched was a really good Pixel deal.

I have an 8 now and have used Xperias: Would recommend.
Check out buying used or refurbished phones off swappa.com or ebay.com if nothing is in stock.

I've used nothing but Pixels since the first one launched. Don't see me changing anytime soon.

wrote last edited by [email protected]https://phonedb.net/ has a database of smartphones that you can filter by various criteria. Among these are height and width.
Searching for smartphones released in 2023 or later with a maximum width of 68mm and a maximum height of 145mm yields only Asus Zenphone 10 variants, which you've already said that you have ruled out. I'd add that I personally am not a fan of Asus's "years of support" number --- if they'd crank that up, some of their (larger) phones would go to the top of my list. That may or may not matter for you.
If you go up to a width of 75mm, the Samsung Galaxy S23 enters the picture. That has a 5.9" screen. I haven't used it, so can't personally recommend it.
EDIT: Another option might be going at this from a different way. If the issue is that your hand is too small to wrap around the thing comfortably, might be options to add a different grip.

Looks like there are some people who make gizmos aimed at this, changing how the phone is held:

Oof, sadly these are maybe the only decent phones keeping an SD card and headphone jack. Not sure what else to get for my next phone.

wrote last edited by [email protected]Just an FYI - your phone is physically bigger than most current 6.3” screen phones like the iPhone 16 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro. The S25 is significantly smaller too.

I have the Pixel 9 Pro, fits great in my hand.

Ah damn, I misread the title. Under 6.2". Mine is 6.4", so that's a no-go then.
