When I don't tell someone I know that using a computer does not have to be painful, it feels like an act of cruelty. That only applies to people I know IRL, I feel like most of Lemmy at least knows about Linux. In any case, if anything I'd say the tendency to mention Linux comes from a genuine intention of helping -

But this behavior is most prevalent here on lemmy, and i seriously doubt anyone who has managed to find their way to this platform doesn't know that linux exists. It just becomes real insufferable real fast.
