Yes, London Underground overheating is a serious issue. The sweat gutters help, but it's just a temporary solution.

The tea rations help as well. Raising our core temperature, so as we cool we feel better.

TL;DR: the tunnels are poorly ventilated and the walls have been slowly absorbing the heat generated by machinery and people and heating up for the past 150 years.

Were the trains running during the lockdown? Was there any noticeable decrease in the temperature during that time?

A friend of mine insisted that it was because we were nearer to the core of the Earth. She was absolutely not prepared to accept any other explanation. Nope, it was the lava making it hot.
