Is fediverse turning into reddit?

From what I’ve seen Piefed seems to be just Lemmy but packed full of every pro-censorship tool you could ever imagine to aid in creating a “safe space” echo chamber for pussies.
Now that's a take
-
Exactly... And then banned them for something they did on a different community. It's crazy to have such little power and still abuse it.
wrote last edited by [email protected]I’ve upset a prominent mod on Lemmy.world so much by simply having a differing opinion that they banned me from their sub instantly and permanently (with no ban reason given) and then must have vine and asked their other mod buddies to ban me from their communities that I’d literally never so much as even visited lol. Within probably 15 mins of the initial ban I was banned from 3 other communities permanently, and that mod wasn’t a mod on them.
I messaged a few of the other mods on the main sub to let them know what he did, but didn’t hear so much as a peep from them.

No joke, Periodic changing of mods might be a better long term strategy. Or like you said a small election from time to time.
Any position of power should be chosen by the people of that community, not picked by the others already in power
-
Okay but you can't choose how other people feel about the words you call them
You can choose not to be offended tho.
-
Taking action against someone or even just DMing them because of downvotes is some weak shit.
People like that seem to be who piefed is made for.

We had a community for the fediverse chick on our home instance. That went pretty bad, pretty fast. People there tried to find out who she is and where the spam is coming from. They ended up receiving disturbing gore in their DMs..
Wait what? That is some insane lore. Was it sent from fediverse chick accounts??
-
Unpopular opinion: y'all call everything you don't like "reddit" (while the average Lemmy user is a lot of what people who don't use either dislike about reddit)
Well 95% of all the people on the fediverse came from Reddit, so it’s bizarre when people pretend that it’s any different here. The only difference is in popularity.

Apart from the silly ass mod abuse; yes!
Lemmy is the concentration of Reddit energy people.
-
post the guys name so i can proactively block him
I’m going to tag him in voyager to remind myself to reply to any comment of his that I see and have the word bro in there at least once.

Okay but you can't choose how other people feel about the words you call them
Yet, you can't ban normal words just because someone, somewhere feels insulted.

Let's make something clear. Admins are just people. There is no school you have to finish to be an admin. You don't have to pass any logic or IQ tests. Most admins do not reason properly; in fact, they are terrible at it. They act like they have a master's degree in community administration, but they don't.

sensitive snowflake, what are the chances he ones of the political extremes. if this was reddit, the person making an unsoliciated messaged wouldve been banned, or both because reddit has a very aggressive AI moderation system, plus thier spam/bot filters are easily triggered by any number of things, this would severely reduce the number of users on Lemmy if they had this.
ones of the political extremes
And let’s not pretend we don’t know exactly which extreme he is on. He’s probably crying about Kimmel being “cancelled for free speech” as we speak.

A random mod being unreasonable doesn't turn us all into reddit though. Unlike reddit, we can always open another comm with the same name and avoid the bastards.

That's not really the typical situation I see people arguing over. It's usually the person being called it who's upset, and they don't want a ban, they just want kindness
-
Okay but you can't choose how other people feel about the words you call them
Yeah, words like "slut" for example

That warning doesn't seem very friendly.

wrote last edited by [email protected]Afaik they were from random new accounts like all the messages. I wasn't part of the community but I remember that it was decided to not discuss the fediverse chick topic on our instance anymore. Since only the people from within the community got those messages it was assumed that the person who sent them was either part of it teaching what happened within this community. So starting it seemed to be sensible and it seemed to have worked.
Edit: found the post about the instance decision. (English version at the end of the post)

I feel like it's fair to ask someone not to call you bro, but it's fucked to threaten banning them over a downvote.
It's fair to ask anything, also fair for me to think you're a bit thick if that's the kinda things you think about.
-
I'm not your bro, dude!
Im not your dude, buddy!

Lmao at the Antifa community dominating the front page
