Okay but you can't choose how other people feel about the words you call them

Yet, you can't ban normal words just because someone, somewhere feels insulted.

Let's make something clear. Admins are just people. There is no school you have to finish to be an admin. You don't have to pass any logic or IQ tests. Most admins do not reason properly; in fact, they are terrible at it. They act like they have a master's degree in community administration, but they don't.

sensitive snowflake, what are the chances he ones of the political extremes. if this was reddit, the person making an unsoliciated messaged wouldve been banned, or both because reddit has a very aggressive AI moderation system, plus thier spam/bot filters are easily triggered by any number of things, this would severely reduce the number of users on Lemmy if they had this.

And let’s not pretend we don’t know exactly which extreme he is on. He’s probably crying about Kimmel being “cancelled for free speech” as we speak.

          Already featured in YPTB

A random mod being unreasonable doesn't turn us all into reddit though. Unlike reddit, we can always open another comm with the same name and avoid the bastards.

That's not really the typical situation I see people arguing over. It's usually the person being called it who's upset, and they don't want a ban, they just want kindness

Wait what? That is some insane lore. Was it sent from fediverse chick accounts??

Afaik they were from random new accounts like all the messages. I wasn't part of the community but I remember that it was decided to not discuss the fediverse chick topic on our instance anymore. Since only the people from within the community got those messages it was assumed that the person who sent them was either part of it teaching what happened within this community. So starting it seemed to be sensible and it seemed to have worked.

Edit: found the post about the instance decision. (English version at the end of the post)

I feel like it's fair to ask someone not to call you bro, but it's fucked to threaten banning them over a downvote.

It's fair to ask anything, also fair for me to think you're a bit thick if that's the kinda things you think about.

["bro" is] often used either to diminish what someone says or as a false slow of friendship

As petty and lame the warning and ban was, I can't exactly argue with this statement. I can understand where that's coming from. It's not true for me personally, but I bet it is with others. 😆

Either way, that's such a basic word that we can't ban its use, come on bro...

Fediverse can newer turn to redit, because of tehnical diferences.

If you have system that works in diferent way than you have something that is truly diferent.

Often you have system that is the same but they clame its diferent. But thats not the case with fediverse..

I don't know, but my bot sense tingles a lot less in Lemmy. There also isn't a hidden penalization score that can be associated to accounts like on Reddit, what you see is what you get. Almost no backend shenanigans, not even shadow bans. If only it didn't hide downvote information like on Reddit.

Don't disagree fully, but time/energy is definitely a factor in this. I'm really not going to care enough to make an educated vote in all the communities that I'm in, I have better things to do. And likewise for a lot of people probably. Having 3 people vote in a mod doesn't exactly give confidence either, it makes it easy to game the system. For smaller communities it's probably better to retain the "benevolent dictator" system and punish any unruly mods with abandoning their community for a new one.

He didn't call you out publically because ke was afraid of the rightfuk and expected backlash.

Threats done in private have a larger chance of success, and they knew it.
