Map of New York City .

      New Jersey

New Jersey and New York City are intimately connected both in terms of land and economy. One of NYC's biggest landmarks, the Statue of Liberty, is literally on the border with New Jersey. Plus Cory Booker is a Democrat with a high profile nationally and he is going to try for the presidency again so some people are interested in his opinion.

I have mixed feelings about him. I have listened to a lot of different interviews with him and I truly believe that he believes in everything he says and does 100%, which to me does count for something. The problem is, I think he's completely delusional and his proposed solutions to America's problems are just doubling down on failed Clinton era policies without examining what is actually wrong with the system and society that created Trump in the first place. His proposed cause for the collapse of neoliberalism is that we just didn't do it right and need to just do neoliberalism harder. It's like he just mainlined episodes of the West Wing instead of doing any kind of introspection.

Cory Booker, unlike most politicians in general, does seem to be someone who actually has a set of guiding principles that he follows. The problem is that those principles are incredibly misguided. In a pre-Trump world I probably would have loved someone like Cory Booker as president but the world has changed and it's become a lot clearer that neoliberalism is a failed ideology that just leads to more inequality.

              Ok, fair enough.

I still feel responsible for Bush Jr, as when I was younger I believed in the protest vote, but I'll never make that mistake again. If Booker gets the nomination he'll get my vote, because the lesser of two evils, until we fix our voting system. I still hope Democrats field a better candidate to root for in the primaries, although from the reaction to Mamdani we've observed, I suppose I shouldn't hope for much.

I'm still not certain there'll be a next election, so it may be moot.

I appreciate the sentiment, but not from me, anyway. Mangioning should be reserved for the truly wicked, not merely everyone who disagrees with me.

I can vehemently disagree with someone's positions without believing they should be lined up against a wall. Actively purchasing a giant social media platform specifically to promote Nazi-ism, sure. Break out a gallows. But just being a misguided, duplicitous asshole? Naw.

All I needed to know about him was he endorsed Eric Adams for mayor.

If you think this is cowardice then you must not yet have developed object permanence.

This is the main role of the democratic party, keep the left down and keep the capitalist happy. They will cynically adopt any issue - that doesn’t threaten that prime directive - for a few months, be it black lives matter or trans rights, and then drop them again once it’s no longer convenient.

But if any real leftist candidate (with huge democratic support and winning based on broadly popular policies), ever comes close to power, all defense mechanisms kick in.

As someone who's had connections to Newark all my life - yes, this absolutely tracks. Booker and his family have always been political scum.

Newark, the city Booker was mayor of, is widely considered to be #2 in the NYC metro area. Before 2020, many people commuted between Penn Station (NYC) and Penn Station (Newark). Many still do, in spite of NJ Transit & Amtrak screwing it up.

Newark & NYC candidates often endorse one another.

Liberty Island is in NJ. It's not New York.

That's straight up false. The island is an exclave of Manhattan, while the water surrounding the island is entirely New Jersey territory.

Having seen him come up from Newark, I've been disappointed with him. He tries to portray himself as progressive, but he is really fucking centrist at times and has made a lot of compromised votes that don't reflect his rhetoric.

I found it interesting that someone who grew up in Newark said that they preferred the previous mayor who was arrested in corruption charges.

I really don't understand calling people one dislikes "cocksuckers". I personally love anyone who sucks cock. They're doing good in this world, unlike Cory Booker.

                                          It's also kinda homophobic, eh?
