Seriously, if we want to win, we need converts. Welcome them with open arms. Help them to understand and teach them that this is part of a larger trend. Not everyone is a chronically online political weirdo.
Yeah, I agree. Most of the country has been negatively impacted by the people in power. This does include the D politicians but especially includes the current R politicians.

I fundamentally disagree with this kind of take. If someone is having their 'oh shit' moment because a mainstream media figure is being targeted by the regime, that's good. Don't dunk on them for not reacting sooner just to make yourself feel cooler than 'the libs.'
You know what, I'm guilty of this exact thing. I've been pissed because this has been obviously fascism for sometime now, and it angers me how much it feels like I'm one of the few who paid attention to history while the ignoramuses acted like I was overreacting.
However the truth is you're right. I turned my anger on late coming allies and vented my frustration unfairly in their direction. Ultimately it's better late than never and every ally counts in the fight against fascism. After all a lot of us are about to die, or worse.

Hard disagree. The US is cooked. Arguably it's been cooked since the election, but there was a world in which the US public banded together and blocked the regime from taking any effective action. But now that Trump has consolidated power and set all kinds of precedents that fascism will be answered by nothing crickets and ass-licking, there's no stopping him through legal means anymore.
So please allow me to regard these "oh shit it that bad?? :((" people with the highest level of disgust and contempt. I don't owe fascist enablers anything. Just like I don't owe anything but contempt to the Germans who woke up a morning of 1936 and realized "hey guys maybe we fucked it".

We are all in the same boat.

right, and so your proposed solution is to drive the people who had their realisation away, so the strategy of divide and conquer can continue to bear fruit? makes sense....

Having a mainstream media figure and placing them on pedestals are how you got to this situation in the first place and not just once, but twice.
But hey, continue playing on that theatre.
"Kimmel for president 2028"
I agree that we shouldn't glorify a comedian.
Still, it is good that this event is in the spotlight. I, as non- US citizen, even looked up what he actually said.
There is nothing that could even be considered defamatory.
This is very scary, independently of your beliefs. -
Toilet Paper USA robbing Kimmel is not cool.
It was the FCC, which does not answer to Turning Point USA.

The coal mine was literally converted into a canary processing facility like a decade or two ago, by now. Which sounds bleak, but the bright side is so much delectable canary meat.

wrote last edited by [email protected]My neighbor told me the mine keeps killing his canaries so I asked how many canaries he has and he said he just goes to the shelter and gets a new canary afterwards so I said it sounds like he's just feeding shelter canaries to the mine and then his daughter started crying

Why do we do this to ourselves!? Nothing is ever good enough. Can't it be enough that we agree with each other? Why are we gate keeping awareness?
Purity check is way more important than building the better world. Building the better world is hard, hating libs for not being your flavour of socialism is easy, satisfying, and makes you look cool to your peers (until you slip up and now you're the lib)

Right, you give up so you then play directly into their hands by enabling the left divide. You've become another fascist enabler.

I read people are doing it because they (incorrectly) think that LLM’s can’t be trained with their “gibberish”
wrote last edited by [email protected]Now I wish OP actually responded to my comment because now I have a handful of theories with no answer. I am leaning towards them importing a different letter into their English keyboard that's now autocorrecting or something.

Just because it’s arguable doesn’t mean I’m arguing that. Besides, my point was more intended to mean that the symbol used there is correct for the sound that is being conveyed (and I wanted an excuse to share information I thought was interesting.)
Also, smfh, spoilers dude, Beowulf literally just came out
It's just the start of it, no spoilers.

I want to learn more
If the point is that using thorn (þ) then we should also expect the use of anglo saxon runes.
the rest of the text is a transliteration of the opening of beowulf (back?) into runes. Although navy seals copypasta would also have been a stupid gag to do as well.

I think the grace you are extending is admirable. That said, I personally know people who I've been explaining this to and have sent articles to. If you go back far enough in my comment history I commented on a post about a person who teaches about fascism at a prestigious university leaving the US due to fascism. I mentioned sending that article to people who were still doubting. The fact of the matter is that people will only see what they want to see. Every day I tell myself I'm chipping away at the blindness, but I don't have any evidence to support that. It's been months, if not years counting from the start of his first run. Whatever does the trick is great, but some people's brains are just not willing to see it. They'll admit he's bad and they would never vote for him, but a fascist? Cue hemming and hawing. It's like that meme from Westworld. I really do try to extend grace because the "it couldn't happen here", or American exceptionalism, or whatever else obviously runs deep, but I can say from personal experience it's not always the lack of information. Some people really just don't want to see what's right in front of them. It's unfortunately a very well documented part of the human experience.
"It can't happen here" when it has happened and it keeps happening.

Yeah that's frustrating. I think some world views are just too ingrained. Like some phrase or idea is just so true that it's considered an axiom rather than a conclusion.
I've learned I'm in quite the minority believing that folks don't have as much control over their beliefs as we think they do. Or especially the application of that idea. I don't think it is someone's fault that they are racist. And I don't think they need to have magically realized how important it is to try and be informed. Who (that they'd listen to) is going to tell them to do that? Their conservative parent's? Their conservative friends? The conservatives they listen to online?
It's a tough nut to crack. I think folks get frustrated with it and want to blame someone for things not working.
I do want to say that I see all that frustration and anger is very very very valid. People are getting harmed by these beliefs. I'm also sorry that trying to educate folks has been so tough in your case.
I think part of the frustration is that we've convinced ourselves that humans run on logic. I blame the Romans. I'm probably wrong on placing that blame.
May we all find the empathy you're extending. It's truly a daily struggle. Regardless, blaming the Romans is always a good move, so I'm on board there. Down with the Romans!
Best of luck with it all. Keep fighting the good fight.

"It can't happen here" when it has happened and it keeps happening.
Yea, that's basically my whole point. People are so used to thinking that, they're unwilling to see what's happening around them for what it is. I don't think it makes them bad people, though obviously it can lead to bad outcomes, they're just struggling with things we all struggle with. But when I struggle with my own ignorance, or incuriosity, or cognitive dissonance it generally does not lead to enabling fascism, so I like to think. I hope that if it did people would not give up on attempting to educate and help me. People are flawed creatures and unfortunately our society and technology have far outpaced what we can be reasonably capable of understanding or reasoning through instinctively. I hope things get better, but I don't see that happening without people really taking the time to educate others and meet them where they're at.
