Right, you give up so you then play directly into their hands by enabling the left divide. You've become another fascist enabler.

The people who just now realized that Trump is a fascist aren't "on the left". They are NPCs. It doesn't matter what anyone says about them or to them, the world will literally end before these schmucks lift a finger to fight it.

The idea that "concerned centrists" exist to be convinced with Discourse not to support fascists is literal thought poison. Anyone who was going to resist Trump has already chosen sides. Everyone else is just a passive observer or a literal enabler (instead of whatever you think that term means).

Make no mistake, the time for discourse is over. Whether the American antifascists continue the fight illegally through direct action or bend over is up to them. Historical precedent (Italy, Germany, Russia, Turkey, China...) doesn't favor victory, but I would love to be proven wrong. However the idea that you're doing anything by appealing to the most politically disconnected's hearts and minds is laughable.

I wasn't able to edit my post but I wanted to post an addendum so I deleted it and now I'm reposting it with the addendum and a bunch of more angry ranting:

I promise you that guy probably doesn’t actually care if we’re in fascism as long as he’s safe, well fed, and mildly entertained. He will not put his balls on the table to fight fascism. He might be annoyed that his late night cable slop has been disrupted, but that’s it.

To be clear, he doesn't owe us anything either. He doesn't owe us suicidal devotion to a socialist revolution against the fascists. And you would be unhinged and legitimately an immoral sociopath to think otherwise. Liberal normies do not owe us devotion to political awareness. No one chooses to be born. No one owes their lives to a cause. Rage and froth at the mouth about it all you want.

They voted for democrats, and they did not even really owe anyone even that. We could have avoided this. We could have been fighting against a liberal president. We could have built off that. Instead now we're stuck in defense yet again and we are simply out of time. Congratulations.

And no, I wont get over it, suck the shit out of my asshole. I want good things world make no mistake, and I still feel tinges of hope when I see the Trump presidency stumble and fuck up. With hope that maybe the world can heal eventually to something that's not intolerable, perhaps merely just mildly bad. But there is this meta-awareness of resentment overlaid on top of even that because we should not be here and we did not need to be here. And even after when the world has healed.

Even if it heal to a miraculous degree. Maybe we live in a fucking utopia at the end of this: still fuck you. I'll be an elderly man or dead. The prime of my life wasted existing in a toxic miserable slog of a period of time because of a stupid political larpers and weak liberals couldn't stop fucking bickering with each other and I have to stare into the abyss of people's suffering and pain caused by this administration. And let be clear: Its not even my own pain or death. I'm living a materially better life than like 90% of you probably, but my sense of pride in my humanity is fucking dead. Everything I indulge in covered in a grey smog of "Hey I bet a bunch of Africans are going to unnecessarily starve to death because we did not like Harris enough to prevent Trump from cutting USAID haha ok enjoy your sci-fi book buddy"

      Its fucking inescapable now. AGHAGHGA

You expressed my feelings pretty well. Will I be completely safe? Maybe not, but for the time being I am relatively insulated from what is going on.

Even so, I am filled with grief for all the suffering that has already happened and that which is yet to come.

I don’t really believe in karma but part of me cynically wonders if this is the price our country pays for exploiting the rest of the world so long. Not paid by those who caused it, but the common people as scapegoats.

They do have a saying about things built on Indian burial grounds… sigh. Perhaps the system has to be broken to be rebuilt, but how many must be crushed under the boots of progress?

Now i'm no christian, but whatever jesus gave us this had fire in his belly. someone get him some wine that is not hygienic.

the this in question so you don't have to click through unless you want:

::: spoiler The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard
        Matthieu 20 vv1-16, NIV

“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.

“About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ So they went.

“He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’

“‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered.

“He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’

“When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’

“The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’

“But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’

Planting trees when the world is on fire is the wrong time.

It's be nice to have well trained environmentally conscious people who are capable of containing a wild fire, but we don't.

If we’re being real here, your average person is either scared or feels so overwhelmed that they are checked out until they are directly needed by a friend or family member. If someone is talking now, it’s because their back is against the wall.

I’m sure many people don’t want to sound like the ‘boy who cried wolf’, only to not be taken seriously when their claims appear overblown about the scale of an issue. The big problem is that it has been a death by a thousand cuts. If it’s not a big problem close to home, then there are less people willing to step in for that specific issue. Especially so when personal relationships are at risk by taking a preemptive stand.

Certainly some people have been put off from voicing their concerns when how they voice it has gotten them bashed on by the very people they are supporting as well.

Personally, I believe that when push comes to shove that people are looking out for each other. With how things have been going, more people are calling out the wrongs and support for injustice is being chipped away at while everyone is starting to feel affected.

i get the metaphor and trust is earned, but i fundamentally believe this:
            People can change.
why try to better ourselves, be better people, if change is impossible. improvement is only out of reach for the crabs (having already reached the pinnacle)

              I agree with this.

It's a matter of resources. Do people who can both fight the fire and educate people in fighting fires do fire fighting or educating? Hell... I'm not sure we have many of either.

I could be being daft here but I thought USAID was a propaganda and infiltration tactic. Like a way for the USA to put pressure on other countries.

                    Maybe, but:

                    1. Those who operated and participated in the aid activities believed it was genuine
                    2. It helped a lot of people under that pretense

If it really is a propaganda, infiltration, and pressure tactic then none of those things justify it's existence. Of course it might not just be that and reality is complicated. Either way promoting interventionism from a country with such a horrific record as the USA is a bad idea.

I swear I did not thought I would see, in my lifetime, the fall of the American Empire, and so fast and so far from where it once stand. As a non american this it makes me sad that the people could not see this coming and now it's too far gone.

A great example to the world that we should never lower our guns because evil is just one election away

I find that to be a very weak argument.

Say I make fun of a racist. If they're just a poor propagandized individual who finally realizes their act, should I not shame them? Should I not ensure that they realize the depth of their behavior, the depth of their shame?

Shrugs I like to keep records. I don't like letting people off the hook after they shit the bed and force everyone else to clean it up while they figure out they don't like how it smells. I think that's weak behavior and a big part of the reason we're here today.

Edit: I'm ok with letting children off the hook. Kids are fucking dumb.

I'm confused about who this post is really aimed at. Personally I don't know anyone who suddenly decided that trump is a bad person because of this one latest act of draconian nonsense.

That’s actually the ‘thorn’ symbol, representative of the ‘th’ sound. It was used in old English, with the example everyone might know being for the word ‘the’. It was spelled þe, with ‘y’ being used as a placeholder representation of thorn, and so thus we got “ye olde”.

Could be an intentional stylistic choice, could be that they are Icelandic (as thorn is still used in their modern alphabet iirc), but it’s arguably not technically incorrect.

Right but we're speaking English that doesn't contain that symbol so why is it there?

Your keyboards all messed up btw, seems to be combining t and h into archaic nonsense for some reason.

The keyboard's not broken, they're doing it on purpose because they're a prat. They're trying to be some meme account, like poemforyoursprog, except not as good and way more annoying.

I mean, I gave my guesses in the comment you’re replying to, but your guess is likely just as good as mine. Someone else mentioned that people had apparently been doing it to try and disrupt LLMs training on their scraped comment text, but I hadn’t heard anything about that so idk.
