Don't you know you need self value from being a slave. Chase fake paper money like a good gerbil. Our slave morality tells us you are not a good person like us unless you do what we do.

Just skimmed through the thread and its filled with strawmen or plain misunderstanding.

Nobody is criticizing someone for having rich parents, even if said parents got that money from exploitation, heck even slavery.

No the criticism is that someone rich, thanks to their parents rather than their own effort, is promoting a way to reach such a position in life by replicating a path that is not real. If you have rich parents and you promote "making stuff" or writing a book, which you actually did yet never meaningfully contributing to the lifestyle you are promoting, you are basically dishonest.

TL;DR: nobody cares about that specific person or that situation, we are just tired of lies sold for profit.

I'm being completely serious, though theres a good bit of self awareness mixed in. I wish I could get a job that was more than one day a week, but alas unless you want to work front end retail getting any other job is like pulling teeth. Online applications were a mistake for numerous reasons least of all it forces folks like myself more or less out of the job market because I fundementally can't deal with their stupid song and dance, just give me a job if ya don't like me fire me.

Or are you referring to my pacing? If so I feel it's needed context that I more or less have the second floor to myself since my grandmother's knees can't handle it. Helps that I'm her only descendant on speaking terms with her, also she raised me.

Nice. I also have had it since then, but got it for the 360. Did one playthrough and vowed never to play another Bethesda game on console haha. Been doing it on PC this time.

Could be worse, my first playthrough was the PS3 version. Which to say was a scuffed introduction would be an understatement, though luckily I was able to get the ultimate edition at Walmart discounted on August 13 2012 according to my steam profile. Which I am now realizing means I put up with PS3 NV for nearly 2 years fucking hell, kid me had a high tolerance for bullshit.

Reminds me of an aside from this blog article that has been living in my head for a few months — To Save the Arts we must Kill the Artist — that goes like:

the artist as the bourgeois failson

And other such points about the intersections of privilege, wealth, etc, and art.

Oof. Weird thing was that I played FO3 on PC, but then got NV for the 360. Not too sure why. 2 years on console NV is a feat to endure haha.

Climate change isn't the same as cleaning up litter? It's on a global scale of gigatons of emissions, involving every industrialized nation all interacting together with the environment.

This is bigger than anything in human history. Stop fucking comparing it to cleaning up some fucking tires in a river.

Or they might have broken their back working long hours for 20 years sacrificing to live below their means and build up a big enough stash to be able to vibe for a while and maybe even find something to do that would be meaningful for them and possibly help others. I don’t presume to know anyone else’s history, struggles, or circumstances, and it seems a bit unkind to make assumptions.

But, probably, yeah. In most cases. I just felt personally attacked because I just left a job I hated, moved to a low cost of living area, massively downsized on housing, and realized I can exist for quite a while without having a job, and can finally try finishing some side projects I never had time for. So, I still work, it’s just that nobody is paying me.

I don't think that surviving on €800/month is extremely lucky. I know quite a few other people who also did that. I also know quite a few other people who just stayed with their parents during university so they didn't have to work at all.

Being able to live on 800€ a month isn't that hard if you're in a lower COL area, like a smaller town.

What's hard is making those 800€ while working 10 hours a week. I checked the tutoring prices in an area like that (my small central European hometown) and the only people charging 20+ eur per hour were people with decades of experience.

Lake Erie was dead from pollution. The Cuyahoga River in Ohio was so polluted it caught fire.

I misunderstood the examples given, I figured they were filled with trash, looking it up I see trash was only part of the problem.

But that doesn't actually change my point! Cleaning up toxic waste at a single lake or river site isn't the same as cleaning the atmosphere of the entire fucking planet. It's absurd to put these on the same scale as climate change.

We don't even have the technology to clean the atmosphere on a human timescale, and it might not even be possible.

I already mentioned CFC’s which required global cooperation on a scale never seen before.

CFCs were only emitted from a few specific industries and could be eliminated with existing alternatives, and they weren't the basis for the entire economy. CFCs are also not present in the atmosphere for very long and they decay very quickly, and were only present at a little over 1 part per billion. They're already falling because eliminating them was easy.

We're at 415 parts per million in CO2 concentrations. That's orders of magnitude in difference, and the carbon that is already present will take multiple human lifetimes to be removed via natural means. And it's still getting worse.

CFCs were baby shit compared to this crisis of civilization.

EDIT Oh I forgot, wanna know something funny? Those CFC alternatives we're using actually contribute to climate change.

Everything is bigger than anying human history because we have more people.

That also means we have more enemies, and at the moment those enemies are controlling the US government.

Oof. Weird thing was that I played FO3 on PC, but then got NV for the 360. Not too sure why. 2 years on console NV is a feat to endure haha.

Skyrim on 360 was even more painful. Hope ya like 10 minutes of chicken loading screen. My laptop back then couldn't run Skyrim but it could run NV rather well.

It's not that difficult. First, you need to start with the right subjects: Maths with English on the side. Maths alone is usually enough, but English is a good side for slow times of the year.

Then get into an agency that does tutoring at home and employs you as self employed. The don't pay that much, but their clients pay a lot. In my area, they paid €19 for 1.5h to the tutors, but the clients had to pay €65.

So after the pre-paid package that they booked was done, I took them on as direct clients for €40-50/1.5h. Together with the travel time (I used public transport and had the flatrate subscription) that came out at roughly €20/h. And since I was a student at the time, I used the travel time to study, so it wasn't really wasted time either.

(The big advantage of these agencies is that their high prices prefilter the clients, so that only wealthy people use these services, and if they got a decent tutor for their kids, they are willing to pay a lot for that. Also, it's super easy to get into these agencies. They are always looking for tutors and their tutor screening is incredibly easy to pass. If you managed to finish school, you'll have no trouble getting into one of these agencies.)

When I was a bit futher into my university course, I switched over to freelancing as a software developer and made €40/h, working from home.

Yeah, I guess if you live in a place where people can afford 65 eur per hour for tutoring but also has 800 eur studios it works.
