Stainless steel? In these times? You would more likely get a brushed aluminium shell, filled with gravel. "Stainless Steel" would be the name of the model. It would break down after 13 months and You would have to buy a new one, while Your grandma would still have her stainless steel block from the 70s.
Back in the before times when home phones were still a thing I had this really nice cordless phone. It had this really nice balance and heft to it, felt really quality and I always remember feeling pretty good about it as a thing. Finally one day it died and I think I must have hoped to figure out what went wrong so I popped it open and realize it was like 2% technology, 23% empty space and the rest was just a solid piece of heavy rubber.

They never said it was a solid block. Plus, this gives them room to make it smaller with shrinkflation.
The purpose is to take up counter space so instead of shrinking it they'll make it bigger but more hollow.

Mine stopped working. I don't know what it was doing before, but it's not doing it now.
It takes up counter space, I can't imagine the physics breaking malfunction you're experiencing if it stopped doing that.

I loved my old smart block until they released a firmware update that bricked it.

They lost it

But try not to get the Stainless Steel Connect. The App in the App Store is outdated and you can't connect it to your WIFI anymore to stop the intermittent beep it makes.
Calm down, Satan.

yeah and if you don't give it internet access it uses its little wheels to drive off the counter

Typical user error...

A cube that size of tungsten would absolutely obliterate that countertop... And the back of anyone dumb enough to try to lift it.
That would be over 19 tonnes. It would go through the floor and sink partway into the ground.
