any games that are the opposite? that started with terrible reviews then improved a lot?
besides No man sky?

I can understand they want some more money but since I already own the game, it is a graphic improving DLC. Should be £10-£15 max.
Meh. It's a remaster. Mostly automated, anyhow. Charging for that barely-half-assed re-re-re-release isn't just greedy AF, it's a slap in our peasant faces with global cost-of-living in the fuckin' stratosphere. You owe it to yourself to spend your finite cash more wisely. These fucks don't need it, and none of the original devs get a cent of it now, anyhow.

Translation: game probably got worse.

You forgot
An update was recently released that didnt change the game in a way some long-term players wanted, and they're angry they fell for hype from streamers and are taking it out on the devs instead.
Or, as we recently saw in helldivers
An update was recently released with a bad translation, and gave players an expectation they could do something that they couldn't, and it became politicized
You both forgot
An update proposal was recently released that didnt change the game
Like we just saw with Darktide. Some proposed balance changes for 2 of the most overpowered outlier weapons were accidentally leaked in the Chinese version of patch notes and they ignited a review bomb by that player base that made its way to others once translated.
This took the game from a recently clawed back mostly positive back to mixed.
The game is in an even worse balance state now that Arbites has released, but this reaction to the proposal of change was one of the most outlandish things I’ve seen in my gaming life. It will almost certainly affect Fatsharks already timid stance on proper game balance.
HD2 unwarranted outcries at least always come from something actually happening to the game. This was just an idea of a possible change.

Side note, the absolute scumbags charge £50
I was downvoted for pointing this out.
It's a no brainer, it's a remaster so no new designing, no new story or landscape, just polishing what was expertly crafted many years ago. The problem with the high-end gaming industry is that the publishers and corporate devs take more and more liberties for their benefit, harming others in the process such as:
- Constant patch updates after an unfinished release instead of releasing a game in its entirety;
- Crunch culture on employees to get a publisher deadline that probably really doesn't matter more than the mental and physical wellbeing of the team;
- Selling licenses to access mandatory online features of games, without which the game is rendered broken instead of perfectly playable, for example a leaderboard that just stops working and doesn't affect gameplay in any way.
It seems they're now trying to pass old refreshed games off at full price to capitalmaxx off a new generation, as well as nostalgic returnees.

the game was actually moderately bugged
Does that mean Bethesda actually fixed 95% of their release bugs?
No it just has only moderately more bugs than the orthogonal instead on a lot more.
-
Possible reasons why this happens:
- An update was recently released that changed the game for the worse, causing long-time players to change their review.
- It's an early access title that's been abandoned by the developer, and is being justifiably review bombed as a result.
- It was recently included in a bundle, so there's a lot of new players who weren't interested enough to buy the game on its own, but played it after receiving it in the bundle and were unimpressed. I'd give this one the least weight, because often times those are players who just don't like the genre or went in with too-high expectations for a low budget game.
Or a recent update added a non-game feature that ruined it, like banning you for using multiplayer with a vpn or adding drm.

Or they didn't finish / "finished" but not really an early access game, leaving everyone holding the bag.

Or became a milkshake duck themselves.
