Java is under the umbrella of the Linux Foundation, but realistically it is likely to end up being bought by Google, Microsoft, IBM, Amazon, Meta or Apple.

Oracle Solaris is likely to be absorbed by the Illumos Foundation.

Just as Oracle ZFS is likely to be absorbed by the OpenZFS Project.

Man saying Oracle Solaris just put a bad taste in my mouth. As a once Sun fanboy that loved SPARC i am sad now.

Inspired by this post by Ed Zitron on Bluesky, I wondered if Oracle would file for bankruptcy in the future, whether due to poor decisions, millions in losses in sectors that failed to meet their targets, the loss of lawsuits filed by users and/or customers, or other reasons.

What fate would you like to see for the products offered by this company?

Load up their software on prison computers, force former employees to use it daily.

Oracle NoSQL Database is released under the CDDL or Apache license

Java being bought by JetBrains and ending up merging Java and Kotlin

        The rest in the trash

Jetbrains Java would be the best outcome. They're already heavily invested in Java and in the community.

I think before this happens, a company would purchase Oracle, because all the tech they have. Oracle has a lot of enterprise and database stuff that I'm not familiar with. The only thing that counts to me is Java. So which companies has the money and knowledge and interest to buy Java rights?

I'm not sure if this would be a good idea, but I can see Google to buy Java. The Android system is based on Java and they need the stability of the rights to not get in conflict with Oracle or any other company again. Also this would give Java some better development I guess.

Apple doesn't sell WebObjects anymore, I don't think they use Java internally anymore.

Oracle owns Cerner which is the largest healthcare IT provider. I believe by a wide margin...?

It will be bought by Google and Java will be sunsetted in 6 months.

Does Oracle own JavaScript? I thought JavaScript was developed by Netscape and that Oracle claimed to own the rights to Java, which is not the same thing.
