This reminds me of that one time when a couple of storks built themselves a nest atop a regular electric pole and while they were out hunting, a random summer storm passed over and lightning struck the pole.

I was like "WTH nature!?". Then the storks came back and they were like "Hmm, something seems different... Need more straws." They rebuilt and a couple of months later i was able to see live a reenactment of the "This is Sparta!" movie scene.
And again I was like "WTH nature!?".

My problem is the seed shells. I have to take a shop vac to the ground cover or it dies from lack of sun.

Time and drugs have not been kind to that sagging face.

You could put some sort of tall flowering thing under it, like irises, daisies, daffodils, etc. that come back every year from a bulb. Seed shells don’t matter if you can’t see them, they just break down into fertile soil for the flowers 🙂

Let's be fair, it was never a great face.

It be like that. Just wait until you get into hummingbird feeders. Those little crackheads are difficult to lure in, but once you get em with that sweet nectar they are yours forever
