Honestly no, I think it's worse here. I blocked so many communities because they're just about US politics, but that stuff is still everywhere, even in generic meme communities.
It's not even Americans talking about American politics either haha

We are united because no individual state in the union has the capacity to become the world's largest economy or sole superpower. Together we managed it.
California alone is the 4th largest economy on the planet. It's GDP is larger than Japan...

please share this list of words and communities!
wrote on last edited by [email protected]It won't let me copy/paste the list out of this boost app. As you come across content, keep adding words that are specific to USA (e.g. Trump, POTUS, senator, constitution, NBA, superbowl), don't add words that are likely to catch other content from other parts of the world (e.g. president, democrat). Communities should be self-evident that are focussed on American content.
I refuse to use any social media app or news app that doesnt have a blocklist. I'd recommend Boost for a Lemmy app and Pluma for an RSS news app.
I probably see more American content than I am putting across, but with training my brain to skip/ignore American content, I'm not too bothered by what I see now.
I would also recommend blocking other things you might fond repetitive or annoying (I don't want endless content about Israel, Ukraine, police brutality, Apple products, etc) and I block all of this stuff too. Lemmy has enough content now to still show plenty of posts with all that blocked. You just need to be sure to browse "all".

Unfortunately America is relevant to most of the world rn. Wish it wasn't though
Agreed! Probably everyone would have done better without them

The most shared tradition ever. Celebrating no longer being british! Most of the world celebrates it at some point in the year!

while our politicians say that not loving australia day and wanting to move it to literally any other significant day in australian history is unaustralian
… im sure we’re not alone
(and then i looked up canada day - nope that’s their day of confederation, south africa - their day of their first non-racial democratic elections, nz - … waitangi day - day of their treaty signing with the māori people - perhaps seems controversial in similar ways?… anyway australia day is a pretty fucking awful celebration)
