Karma in lemmy?
-
Yeah I get it. I guess that's just what people are. We crave being approved by other
-
I guess that's OK. Atleast it's not everywhere like Reddit
-
Huh, I assume that only appears while logged in then. Since I checked your profile on your home instance before writing that comment and didn't see anything (and still don't).
It does indeed seem to not be a thing even on all Lemmy instances, as my lemm.ee account (which runs the same version as lemmy.zip) doesn't have such a number displayed anywhere.
-
There are exceptions, I think Piefed (see [email protected] ) calculates and uses it in a couple ways.
And some communities like [email protected] autoban people with low karma scores I think. Using [email protected].
-
There is no karma counter builtin, but it is also not something hard to implement. But I remember an chromium/firefox extension displaying it.
"Karma" in Lemmy can be calculated manually though. -
Thanks for the heads up on which instances to avoid!!
-
Thinking of it perhaps it is the client I use that does it, voyager. I have never not been using it ever since I joined lemmy so i often forget that i might have a different experience than other users.

slrpnk.net in general is a good instance.
This is just a single community in the instance.
And PieFed is a software that is compatible with lemmy. So basically it’s a whole bunch of instances that run piefed, not just one.
And “karma” per say isn’t calculated on piefed, just users who get more downvotes than upvotes on most their comments lose some priviledges.

There is ni such thing on Lemmy unfortunatly, there is on PieFed..
-
Let's not follow into Reddits footsteps.
-
karma makes reddit worse. Up/downvotes are great but overall account karma is fucking terrible.
-
Definitely, only difference is here you don't get banned at the speed of light if your opinion doesn't fit the group.
-
It encourages shitposting, high karma almost always was related to memes, not being helpful
-
I dont mind piefeds version since its only negative for ppl getting primarily downvotes, there isnt a boost for high upvotes
-
People getting massdownvoted here to the point of having negative overall rep tend to be an issue
-
You just received five MeowMeowBeanz.
-
As a recovering karma whore, I can attest to this.
-
What's the conversion rate of one MeowMeowBeanz to one Schrute buck?
-
If you need fake Internet points to motivate you to be a good person then you are probably not a good person.
I'm not saying you specifically OP, but just in general. If karma was the only reason someone was civil on reddit that gives off the same vibes as the people who ask why we aren't out raping and murdering if we don't believe in God.

I was super active in drama subs because I am a drama whore at heart. I knew how to just farm karma on them. Lukewarm take with just enough ability to be disageed with that the "bad" people will interact driving up the interactions.
