A court has upheld the classification of the AfD party as "suspected right-wing extremist" by domestic intelligence. An appeal against its listing as "confirmed extremist" is still running.

        Is „suspected“ the right translation?

        In German it’s „gesichtert“, which I would translate as „proven“ or „confirmed“.

This isn't about the newest report on them. Suspected is the right translation as they were fighting against that label as well.

And it's a well earned label, indeed.

I think they mean to say the current classification is upheld, while the incoming one is still debated in court

Yes, "confirmed" or "proven" would be the right term. This is even legally correct, which is important in the age of ChatGPT and the like.

The AfD is legally classified as a right-wing extremist party and, as such, is rightly under observation by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution ("Verfassungsschutz"). This is the assessment of an organization that itself has major problems with right-wing extremism — even they confirm this.

The German term in this legal decision is "Verdachtsfall", so "suspected" is a correct translation

But it’s confirmed, not just suspected anymore.
