    I'm a newbie and I don't know if it's very effective...

    Look into The Gateway Tapes.

The institution that made the tapes discovered the phenomenon of binaural beats, and there are declassified documents from a certain 3-letter entity detailing its possible uses. The bottom line is, binaural beats can have some therapeutic/spiritual benefits, under properly controlled conditions, but you're not going to learn a new language or quit smoking by using them.

I tried listening to a musical piece centered around it a while back. And while the phenomenon is definitely there, producing a recognizable tune, the unpleasantness of two high pitched sinewaves is simply not worth it.

It's interesting as a concept, but as music it is terrible. I prefer listening to music that does not invoke the resonant frequency of my skull.

The super low stuff is genuinely relaxing. N = only 1 but there you have it. I can tell the difference between silence and a relaxing sound that is kneading on my brain

Are sound baths nothing but placebo as well? Theres nothing at all to them?

I haven't yet found one that I actually care about. I mean, it's fine, but boring.

I've been using them for years and find they are really great for meditation, relaxation, or getting yourself into a deep focus mode. I'm a big fan and tend to pull them out every so often.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

Do you use different binaural frequencies for each of your activities? Like theta for meditation, gamma for concentration?

The goal is to do something at the same time, and I find it can help with meditation.

Oh yes, of course. I've played with a binaural beat generator to see how different tones affect me. For example gamma tones sound like a swarm of locust, but holy crap does it help me focus.

That said I will generally just search through YouTube as they will generally have a (somewhat) pleasant sounding binaural beats for just about any mood you are looking to invoke.

If you haven't yet, I suggest you play around with a few different tones and see how they affect you.
