One beneficial way to avoid controversy and raise IQ levels across Europe would be to cancel Eurovision altogether.

They're not even in Europe, kicking them out shouldn't be controversial normally, let alone when they've been committing genocide and are breaking ceasefires.

Although that is not likelly, I think that something along those lines may be the approach they chose to solve this. Find a way to have Israel excluded, but not directly say it is because of the war and genocide.

This is a classic comment for this discussion. The eurovision is not a contest among european countries. It is a contest among the members of the EBU. Any country can become a member of that if they want

You’re advocating for canceling the most mainstream and biggest queer friendly event in Europe?

Regardless of all other considerations, Israel should be removed given the highly suspicious voting that got Israel to first place. In the public vote and second place overall. Israel's song was mediocre and barely registered during the contest, got mediocre scores from the professional judges, and it was not a commercial success before or after the contest, and yet somehow it won the popular vote.

If Israel had won it would have done permanent damage to the Eirovision song contest as there is strong suspicion the vote was rigged. People can vote up to 20 times so it is feasible to manipulate the vote at relatively low cost if focused in a few countries.

It can be both queer friendly and pure brainrot at the same time, these are not mutually exclusive.

While I agree with removing Israel, purely political voting is nothing new for the ESC. Ukraine winning in 2022 wasn't because of the song either.

Australia is a regular participant, the Caucasian countries are also regular entrants and may or may not be in Europe depending on where you draw the border, Morocco is a previous entrant, all of North Africa is eligible to enter but chooses not to, and Lebanon and Jordan have invites too. We should kick Israel out for the real reason of its actions in Gaza and the rest of Palestine, not over silly attempts at technicalities

To become a member of the EBU, a public broadcaster must either be:

                                      • based in a country in this area, defined by the International Telecommunications Union:
                                      • be a member of the Council of Europe

Why should Israel be excluded based on its geographical position alone when every country bordering the Mediterrenean is eligble.
