Reddit’s 50% Plunge Fails to Entice Dip Buyers as Growth Slows.

Got banned over there a month ago, came here hoping to find something of a Sonic community in the same vein as the one over there (very involved in that fanbase, did a lot of my discussion on reddit), has not materialized yet, not enough fans over here, hopefully that changes at some point. I thought at first that it was the open support of Luigi's alleged actions that got me banned, I could be ok with that, I get it, supporting violence and whatnot, I broke the rules, and they were sensible rules more or less, but the longer I look at the current happenings over there, the more suspicious I am that it was because his name came up at ALL, multiple times. That's annoying. That feels less justified.
Also becoming more and more glad it happened when it did. Lot of overt, fascist appeasing censorship going on over there. Like it's not even subtle. There's no ambiguity in it, it's just "this post criticized or disparaged Musk or Trump in some way. (Removed from Reddit)."
I haven’t used Reddit since the api change but I suspect stating that Luigi mangione is a hero who did nothing wrong would get me banned on Reddit. Social murder is completely cool and ok. But actually killing the man who oversees the system of social murder? How dare you!?

Good. I got banned just today for "inciting violence" then when I asked what I did they couldn't tell me. Musk has his grubby little hands all over reddit since him and spez are buddies if I'm not incorrect.

Harsher moderation followed by a bot farm the richest man payed for to report every account that is critical of Nazis.
I'm not even kidding. At this point the amount of comments on Lemmy that I've read that had 10+ year old Reddit accounts banned for "inciting violence" is crazy. I was one of them a few months ago. Told a dude denying a Nazi salute was a Nazi salute to "go to hell where Nazis belong". Was banned within an hour. Permanent and IP/Metadata banned. Instant response of "no" to my unban request.
This is not a unique experience either. Leave reddit like it's the plague.

Any criticism of conservatism is grounds for removal now. I can't believe it's gotten this far.
Is there any Sonic community on Lemmy? Did you make one? I'm a casual fan, but I'd join.

I'm just sad that I'm leaving all the marvel and action figure collector communities i was apart of behind. But yeah I don't plan on going back. It's gonna become infested with nazis sooner or later anyway.

literally one of the 2 reasons I haven't quit reddit completely (the other being I'm slowly deleting all my comments)

Holy shit, me too.
They said I threatened violence because in a thread about Putin potentially being sick, I said I wished he had a painful slow death.
Apparently even bloodthirsty dictators get to have their poor feelings protected by Reddit.
Fuck Reddit! I'm just gonna abandon that shit platform

Thank you for such a long writeup to my simple question. I would definitely love to selfhost my own little lemmy instance someday in the future. It never made sense to me that this place was automatically better when it's just technically someone else's servers.
Well, there truly is a trickle down effect there: there is only one Reddit, but there are many instances running
Reddit 2.0Lemmy, and several running Mbin or PieFed instead. So as a user, if you do not like Reddit, there aren't really any good alternatives (read a book, Twitter/X or like Bluesky or Mastodon or GameFAQs or such, maybe touch grass, etc.:-), but if you do not enjoy a Lemmy, you can shuffle over to another one, or even start your own. What I said above is just the beauty of any generic Free and Open Source Software to run or be a user on a forum, but beyond that, the Federation model of sharing content via the ActivityPub protocol allows you to work with the identically same data from the new place as you would have from the old - more or less. e.g. if you get booted from Lemmy.ml and make a lemmy.world account then you could access the same communities on lemmy.ml, with the new account (although being careful this time not to cross the unwritten rules, including for ban evasion). Moving from Reddit to X doesn't allow that, but moving from a Lemmy instance to another Lemmy, or Mbin or PieFed, does.
So there is that tiny amount of freedom, which nonetheless still sets it apart from corporate non-FOSS Reddit, by virtue of the Federation model:-). The Fediverse software is quite resource intensive, depending on amount of network utilization, but widely considered to be better than isolated forum software for this reason of its interconnectedness:-).

Yeah that's probably for the best. I say this with no judgement as a former WoW addict. It's the time to do shit in the real world and get organized to resist these Fascist. Hit up PSL (Party for Socialism and Liberation) or DSA (Democratic Socialist of America) in your area. If anything it will give you a social life on Friday/Saturday (usually when they have meetups for PSL in my experience). PSL in my area even organized child care during meetups/protests.
Also, your local SRA (Socialist Rifle Association) if you have one. Basically the only place to train with a weapon that isn't filled with MAGA hats. But they have literally been overwhelmed since November so might have to deal with hogs in another course if you're interested in that. Again, depends on your location.
That's my experience trying to explore real life anyway. Your path might be different. Plenty of mutual aids to join. Lots of local organizations of any kind our leading the charge to resist ICE. Depending on your location that might even be a Church. Find out what works for you in your area.

You're probably right. I'm already armed so I'll probably check out some groups. I've been meaning to link up with some irl left leaning groups. Shouldn't be hard since I'm not far from Chicago.

[email protected] is the biggest one I've found but it's VERY inactive. You'd be better off going to a Sonic forum like the Sonic Stadium message boards, but those are a little less penetrable than something like reddit because EVERYONE there is a huge, dedicated fan, and it can get really strongly opinionated.

Lol suck shit reddit. Rot in piss
you won't be missed! It might be at least a little missed for all the useful info and history that it had accumulated over these decades... But oh well.
They shat this bed they get to lay in it
for all the useful info
Recently, I've been questioning how useful the reddit info actually is. I've been lurking in multiple subreddits related to things I'm actually quite knowledgeable at, and the amount of times I've seen people asking questions and getting absolutely bogus answers that were highly downvoted was just... concerning. Not to mention how often the correct answer was heavily downvoted for absolutely no reason. That's when I realised - hey, maybe redditors aren't that smart after all? I can detect the bullshit for the things I actually know, then what about things that I don't? Should I trust them?
Not to mention that to get the info you want, usually you'll have to get through a bunch of shitty jokes, going off topic, rants and even some "totally-not-sponsored" comments.

Thank you for saying it. Reddit still has a pocket in the public conciousness that its still the 1st place to go for answers. It isn't and it hasn't been for a loooooooooong time. Not just for the reasons you say, but severe tomfuckery with what they show to SE indexing bots. Most of the links that lead into Reddit are shady as fuck, rarely lead to any good information, and are clearly bubblesorted up in the search algos for mysterious reasons we can't know in specifics. I did hardcore SEO for 2 years so I have at least a spidey-sense that there's major shenanigans.

I believe I was warned once for that same comment, and banned on another account. I was saying the same thing violence in relationship are overwhelming men in every way. Sure there is done by women
Consider conducting some actual research and study, instead of deciding your and biased ideas represent reality.
The fact is that in terms of frequency non-males are worst. Males more severe physical damage per incident.
But don't argue with me here, if you wanted actual knowledge on the subject you'd have it already.

I just don't understand why a person would choose to invest in Reddit. What exactly is the value proposition here?
Reddit has proper moderation. As in actual people moderate it. It basically has a lot of content that was verified by 'experts'. And they do it for free.
In the age of bots, fake news and AI generated pages Reddit is a pretty good source of actual facts. Search engines lean on it more and more so it means there's bunch of money in it.
At least that was the plan. If people will stop moderating there because of politics it's worthless.
