I pulled out a wine grenade that blew up in my hands the other day. Big mess and some how missed a shard I found days later.

Don’t put glass bottles in there. I did that once and forgot. The next day I heard a loud explosion. Went to open the feeezer and glass was falling out.
at least it didn't happen at night and wake you up, that would have terrified me

This works, as long as you act on hearing the alarm immediately. Do not just turn it off and think "I'll do it in a minute".
One can of pop exploding in there was enough to traumatize me into never forgetting again.

Wrap the can in a wet paper towel. It'll get cold much faster that way, possibly before you forget it's in there.

A room temperature can of full sugar soda takes at most 2 hours to chill in a 0 °F freezer. A refrigerated can of full sugar soda takes about 45 minutes to get to just above freezing (the perfect temperature for Dr Pepper consumption).
Diet sodas take about half the time in both scenarios.
This is for 12oz cans.
I've got it down to a science.
I am literally saving this comment. For science appreciation and not because I have exploded sooooo many cans in my freezer.

Honestly, it doesn't work well enough for the trouble.

Set a timer on your phone.
Laundry? Set a timer on your phone.

That's when you hit snooze.

It terrified me none the less and embarrassed me. I wasn't even the person who wanted to drink that beer.

You overestimate my memory

I put my steel water bottle in the freezer once... I don't have a steel water bottle anymore.

I've been traumatized into "never forgetting again" two or three times now.

I think every time I switch freezers, I have to learn the lesson again. Maybe the vision of the particular freezer I'm using splattered in gooey cola tar is enough reminder, but with a different freezer, the trauma is no longer with it.

TIL I learned that 0 °F is the temperature of a freezer (it's -18 in Celsius). I wonder if there's a scientific reason for it to be -18 or if it's just arbitrary so it's 0 in Fahrenheit.
