I'm just one person but I've been loving Civ VII and feel it is the best version so far, although I've only played V and VI. There's no reason you can't wait another year though and buy it with more polish, the previous entries haven't changed, in that they are still great games and there's no reason you can't continue to play them over the latest version. It also depends on what version those you play with are playing.

Thats what I tell people.. if you want Civilization, get Civ 4. Everything after has just been a slow decline.
