Why do you need an account of any kind to play a single player game?

It's not a single player game. Or did you mean Forza?

Although if you're offline you won't be able to make an account anyway.

Imagine telling younger you with the Xbox 360 with Halo 2, Halo 3 and all the Gears games that Microsoft would one day be putting these flagship titles on the Playstation.

Remember when Sony fans were laughing at PC players for refusing to make a PSN account to play games on Steam, even going as far as saying "it's just a sign in, what does it matter?". Will the table has turned.

Man do you remember how heated the "PlayStation vs Xbox" arguments used to get ?

Sounds about right. Needing an account for third party crossplay is nothing new.

This is the back of the Split Fiction box warning about needing an EA account and a billion other things.

This is just like how we all used to need to tune into ABC first before we could watch CBS. Remember? That was so bizarre.

Context is that this is an absurd situation I made up. ABC and CBS are two completely separate and competitive tv channels, just like Sony and Microsoft are direct competitors. Dealing with one to use the other is...pardon my French, completely retarded.
