I downvote spelling problems immediately. I bet there's a high correlation between fallacies and "can't spell for shit".

Causation (morons can't spell) = Correlation (morons also say stupid shit that is wrong)

Argument from fallacy is the formal fallacy of analyzing an argument and inferring that, since it contains a fallacy, its conclusion must be false.
its conclusion must be false
falseSorry, defenders of irrationality: calling out an invalid argument (without claiming that implies a false conclusion) is not argument from fallacy.
When someone points out your argument is flawed, fix it.

Even if itβs a good point or funny? Sometimes people type fast and their brains jumble stuff

Don't worry, they've got a cream for that now.

Yeah, I often have to edit my comments a couple times before I fix all the issues and it might be a while before I catch it.

wrote on last edited by [email protected]This is a type of ad hominem fallacy because you're downvoting based on something about the speaker that is unrelated to the argument. You might argue that there is a correlation between the misspellings and logical fallacies, but you offer no evidence, and the fact that you committed this phallusy while spelling everything correctly speaks otherwise.

wrote on last edited by [email protected]My views on spelling changed dramatically over time. I am able to spell very well (in French) so I used it for moral superiority.
Then I learned and realized that the French opaque, obtuse spelling system has been openly and admittedly designed for social elitism and discrimination. It's less about intellect and more about education, i.e., privileges and social class. Mastery of a dumb, nonsensical spelling system is no intellectual feat, it's a circus act.
English orthography is also dumb and nonsensical, but I guess this is due to the hybrid nature of the language and the lack of an Academy. But it's also used by elitists for moral superiority, which I find hilarious.

I always heard that name as "Al McHogan."
Either way, fuck supper.

That's not how one should use voting on lemmy. If the conclusion happens to be right but the reasoning is faulty, it's still a bad post.

I find that difficult to believe, would you happen to remember where you read this? I'm curious to know more about that.

First Incompleteness Theorem: "Any consistent formal system F within which a certain amount of elementary arithmetic can be carried out is incomplete; i.e. there are statements of the language of F which can neither be proved nor disproved in F." (Raatikainen 2020)

Argument from authority (logic is an authority and we do not recognize its mandate to rule on this website)

But if you start doing that, where will it endβ½ You must be a bad person for doing this. No true Lemmy user would do it. Most people don't do this, it must be wrong. Has anyone asked what the admins think?

Argument from authority (logic is an authority and we do not recognize its mandate to rule on this website)
Good joke: irrational people on this website certainly don't recognize much.
An argument from authority is a form of argument in which the opinion of an authority figure (or figures) who lacks relevant expertise is used as evidence to support an argument.
Logic is the study of methods for evaluating whether the premises of an argument adequately support its conclusion.
Definition doesn't apply: logic isn't "an authority" capable of bearing "opinion" or "expertise".
