Mess with the crab, you get the stab. I have a picture I made of that on another phone. Sadly not this one.

At one point that was a fish...I don't think its intended purpose was to get mutilated, processes to look vaguely like crab meat and eaten. But I'm not a fish, so I could be wrong.

I've had both real and imitation crab side by side and I honestly can't tell the difference by taste. Texture, sure, but not taste.

That is really bizarre because they do not taste the same.

holy shit I'm just learning about this now?!?! I have a mild allergy and apparently I can now enjoy* one of my favorite foods I've been unable to eat for years?!?! thank you so much OP 🩷🩷

*I just get really inflamed and feel horrible if I eat it. I won't die, just not a good experience. An article says it's like ~2% crab meat and even if I have a horrible experience I think it's worth a try with a benadryl on hand.

Just don't look up how it's made. I still eat it but it's definitely on my mind when I do.

If you enjoy this, never lookup how its made.

                        I still eat it though.

I looked up how it's made. I don't understand what's objectionable about it. Not seeing any step or ingredient in the process that I haven't used in my own kitchen, minus the mass production and food colouring.

The electrical industrial machinery that are used to manufacture this specific product includes names like "scum sucker" and "meat pump". These are pumps that were designed to move fluids, and the "meat" moves like a fluid under pressure. The chutes that move the solids - before they become... a sort of slurry - collect lighter fats, skin, and scales and they form a sticky gelatinous stalactite. They grow up to a meter or two before they break and fall.

It is a sight to see. My favorite cannery was on an active volcano. You had to take a hovercraft to get there; or a helicopter in high winds; and if the weather was too bad you had to hitch a ride with the haulers. Those things walz through extreme swells like it tickles. Not far from dutch harbor. I think it was akutan. Pretty wild though. Still can't eat the stuff, I took one of those fish tentacles down the back of my shirt, and I threw those clothes away. They also made fich sticks. Same recipe I suppose.
