For me it's mostly a lot of 80's post-punk and synth pop type of music (think Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order, Bauhaus, etc.) I just associate that music with a time in my life when I was young and carefree. Feels good man.

The Blow has long been my go-to for this. Really wish they'd get back together and drop another album, but thats alright. What they've already made has shaped my life in countless ways as is, and all things, even my most favorite of them, must eventually end.
There's also Magdalena Bay, Supreme Beings of Leisure, Kate Bush, Hakushi Hasegawa, Open Mike Eagle, and Modest Mouse too, depending on what sort of nourishment I'm needing. Honestly, though? This list could on for a long while. I love music and had to seriously redact a lot as is. Am I kicking myself for not mentioning Heavenly and the Long Blondes? Absolutely! But if I mentioned them, then I'd also have to add Plumtree, because obviously i would, but then where's the room to fit Louie Zong and Silversun Pickups?
I think I might just need to take a time to have a very neurodivergent session of cataloging all the bands that have changed the way I think on some level. There goes the rest of my night ig
Edit: Joanna Newsom came on in the shuffle and I couldn't help but remember this thread. Ys is one of the finest albums of its era, by far. And the same for Feist's Monarch! Im going to listen to my better nature and stfu now lol

The album MCMXC A.D. by Enigma is such a powerful album for me. It pulls me through some of my deepest emotional states and will often set me back on track.
I also regularly enjoy long sessions of Trance. Something about the way the genre is constantly evolving but never trying to surprise you in the traditional sense. It guides you comfortably from one movement to the next.

the Mountain Goats and Ben Howard got me through some bad shit a decade ago

I have BPD and so music can have a profound effect on my mood. I tend to match the mood of the song (the lyrics, tho, unless all instrumental) so anything positive feels good. Unfortunately, my tastes gravitate more toward dark, depressing shit. A lot of Grunge and similar sounding genres. I've more recently been only adding things to my big playlist when they are uplifting. The last few on there are songs from K-Pop Demon Hunters... ๐ซฃ

New Order and Depeche Mode were pivotal in my development

wrote last edited by [email protected]NIN, Mudvayne, Chevelle, RATM, Tool... Might get more specific if I am pissed at a specific thing that has a song that fits that I know of. Mad over a breakup? Might put on All-American Rejects. Capitalism? RATM, Muse, and even Arlo Guthrie.

I feel like angry uptempo stuff is better for when you are not angry enough about shit. I've never sought angry stuff out to reinforce anger, like the anger to me has always seemed like a symptom of boundaries not being in place to prevent greater harms or annoyances
Absolutely NOT to discount anything here but thats my experience which has me curious about your position. Im interested in a general music mood theory but its tough stuff, everyone's different and it seems challenging to universalize anything to any kind of global benefit or at least nominal effect

wrote last edited by [email protected]First instinct is to listen to something equally angry. I also sing along with everything, so it can help get some aggression out.
But if I am trying to calm down, I would throw on some Lo-Fi Girl stuff or the playlist I use for sleep.

Can i break the 4th wall here and ask an example of what makes you so angry? Totally none of my business but do you mind for educational and relational purposes here?
