Trump probably made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

Game recognises game. Which in this case is rape and scamming.

All of this because some kid missed his shot from a rooftop. Truly the worst timeline.

I don't want to appear ignorant, but I don't know anything Romania is famous for exporting, except Dacia cars. And I doubt they are being exported to US.
I assume it's either about (not) selling them fancy military stuff or supporting them, e.g. in the causa with Moldova. -
Self proclaimed greatest nation on Earth using its immense power to secure the release of two petty criminal foreigners in jail abroad. Can't make this shit up.

Yeah that's true. Nevermind then. Fuck em.

All of this because no other American has tried.

They can't apply tarrifs to Romania, only the EU as a whole, and that's would open a can of worms.

There actually was at least one other attempt if I recall, near one of the golf courses. Ryan Routh I think it was?

This will be hard to comprehend to many people if they think about this for a moment (unlikely). This is an act of allegiance to Trump but they also suspended democracy so that Putin doesn’t get a weirdo in power. Maybe people up top don’t care about us at all?

Is democracy truly suspended if the supposed will of the people has been moulded by a hostile outside force?
If a majority of people are truly of the opinion that they do not want immigrants living next to them, I'd argue that's regrettable but in the end a valid opinion. If they hold this opinion because someone feeds them lies such as "immigrants are eating the cats and dogs", is that still their free will?

Do you mean the US? Or just domestic media owned by the ultra-rich? I’m appalled by how quickly people are discarding democracy so that the unwashed masses have no say in things.

I assumed you were talking about Romania. I just used Trump as an example just because it's such a blatant lie used to instil fear.
-
I was talking about western governments in general. Establishment parties enjoy unfair advantage everywhere because their owners own the media. Big publishers wield enormous power and now that things got democratised a bit it’s now „alarming” how people vote for anything other than those parties. Times are though so I understand that democracy might be suspended but if it’s done for the sake of keeping things as they are (continued growth of wealth inequality) then fuck it.

The US recently had (at least) a human trafficker in congress, no?

I am not sure where you see democracy suspended in general?
Except for Romania's supreme court annulling the results of the recent election because of massive Russian interference and Ukraine postponing elections due to the ongoing war, I am not aware of any other western government doing such thing.
it’s now „alarming” how people vote for anything other than those parties.
This aspect highly depends on which country we are talking about, due to different voting mechanisms. The worst offender in this category is clearly the US where the 'first past the post' system mathematically results in a two party system.
Here in Germany, we held elections this Sunday on the 23rd. One notable outcome of this election was a near doubling of votes for the left party "Die Linke" compared to last election, which was projected to lose all of their previous seats, which were not many to begin with. This increase was a direct result of conservatives choosing to work with the far-right AFD party before the election. So people actually are voting depending on issues and not just out of habit.

I mean, Romania can just ship everything to some other EU state first. How dependent is Romania's economy on the U.S. anyway?

I was referring to general dynamics in western politics. I don’t think Romania will be the only one to do it. There was no due process (did he get to appeal?) for the Georgescu so I wouldn’t really put that much faith in charges against him. Do you really trust Romanian government after they released Tate because Trump asked the to?

Yeah, it mostly depends on how easy is to get into a „winner gets all” scenario for a political actor. In countries with presidential systems like France, or in countries with two parties systems like US that’s relatively easy, especially with financial backing. Less so in multi-party system which is a saving grace for many European countries for now.
I’m happy that Linke did so well but what does that matter when liberals pretending to be centrists can rule indefinitely? German system favours big coalition outcomes so it’s not like it’s that flexible. And if it’s not flexible then my biggest worry is that stagnation will lead to even bigger knee-jerk reactions from general population later on. We’re literally looking at increasingly 1930s circumstances and we’re not able to act due to all of this inertia.
