Yeah, people love to complain about authoritarianism. Then those same people cheer murder of political rivals...
It's not a road we should go down, and certainly not one we should cheer on.
If he was just someone with shitty opinions then I really wouldn't care. If he was just a loudmouth that said shitty things then I still wouldn't really care; then a knuckle sandwich would be enough.
It's that he has used all his privilege, time, money, and talent almost exclusively to demean, harass, and destroy innocent lives through social murder conducted by the administration he helped put into power twice.
He was a murderer up there with the likes of John Wayne Gacy, frankly with a body count orders of magnitude higher, for his Zionism alone, even if his transphobia, sexism, racism, classism, and fascism were neglected.
In the end, he deserved way the fuck worse, but I'll take what I can get.

Violence in response to speech is not a good thing for a liberal society. If one side of politics does it the other will be forced to respond on the same level.

I think that the most sensible response would be just ignoring the fact. But celebrating assassination is cringe. I'm not talking about black humor, that's something else.
