Switch 2 GameCube controller will only be offered to those who pre-order the console

I need a fucking online subscription to buy a controller???
wrote 20 days ago last edited byI mean, it's Nintendo - if there was a way to somehow automatically charge your card every time you say, hear or think the words "Nintendo", "Mario" and such, they'd do it without hesitation...

wrote 20 days ago last edited byThat's been standard for the switch retro controller releases. And yes it's been bullshit the entire time. I would have liked an N64 one.

K. I'll just wait for the 8bitdo clone.
wrote 20 days ago last edited byI wonder if the Mayflash GC adapter would work.

wrote 20 days ago last edited byAt least it gives people who are using their switches a chance to buy one, instead of them selling out in seconds to a network of bot accounts before winding up on eBay for $300+ the following week.
It’s not the perfect system, but I can understand why they are doing it.

The Nintendo GameCube (GCN) Controller – Nintendo Classics will be exclusively available for Nintendo Switch Online members and will initially only be offered to those invited to pre-order a Nintendo Switch 2 console
Does this suggest I can buy it later or am I going to have to pay scalper price if I want it?
wrote 20 days ago last edited byI think you can buy it later. They still sell all the NES, SNES and N64 controllers on their website.

Nintendo is just dedicated to shooting themselves in the foot as hard as possible with this launch aren't they?
wrote 20 days ago last edited byPeople are going to buy it anyway. There is no amount of abuse a Nintendo fanboy won’t endure.

Remember, Nintendo tried to sue a grocery store in Costa Rica. Maybe don’t support them.
Remember Nintendo… please feel free to list the hundred other crappy things they did here.

- going after palworld
- using last-gen hardware in their consoles
- never decreasing prices

wrote 20 days ago last edited byI am using my Switch just fine without an online subscription. I guess Nintendo thinks I am using it wrong.

wrote 20 days ago last edited byI mean, there’s plenty of reasons to not like Nintendo, but this whole thing is because the GameCube coming to their Online subscription. So I mean… it makes sense.

wrote 20 days ago last edited byRight, but he sub is shareable and a pretty cheap barrier for entry... and required to play those GameCube games anyway.

wrote 20 days ago last edited byBut you don't have the sub (cheap when sharing a family pack) so you can't play the N64 games anyway.

wrote 20 days ago last edited byI don't need it to play Smash with friends on the couch.
Really I shouldn't need the subscription for GC ports either. What's wrong with making them individual purchases like on the 3DS? (Answer: that's not monthly recurring revenue.)

wrote 20 days ago last edited byThey must enter a unique switch serial number (that corresponds with inventory) to make the purchase? Don't see why it has to be contigent on a subscription.

I mean there’s nothing inherently wrong with that (if only they charged last-gen prices as well lol)
but anyways here’s a bunch more shit they’ve done:
- killing emulation projects
- patenting basic gameplay elements
- sued a man so hard he was forced to pay them part of his income for the rest of his life
- charging full price for basic rereleases
and for a few older ones, just to show that they’ve been shitty this whole time, actually:
- attempting to kill game cheating devices (like the game genie)
- preventing 3rd parties from releasing games on competitor’s consoles, essentially giving themselves a monopoly
- attempting to kill video game rentals
-

wrote 20 days ago last edited byMake enough of them that scalping isn't profitable.

wrote 20 days ago last edited byThat's a fine solution long term I guess, but things take time to be made.

wrote 20 days ago last edited byThat would work if serial numbers weren't visible without even opening the box the device came in, and I'm they are even included on the receipt for the device. Scalpers would absolutely have a ton of serial numbers just lying around from unsold devices, or even devices they sold and just hope the owner of won't bother attempting a purchase of the thing they are scalping.

wrote 20 days ago last edited byAverage reaction of a Nintendo fanboy to abuse:
Step 1: this is expensive
Nintendo: kawaiiiiii
Step 2: shut up and take my money you cute souless overlord

Initially. Still annoying but title is misleading.
wrote 20 days ago last edited byWell that got me all worked up for no reason, didn't it.
Thanks for the clarification.
COME ON, OP!
