I the context of Linux and self-hosting “prepping” is usually more about maintaining services you find useful in a way that you can do it yourself, as opposed to relying on Google or Amazon (etc) who could pull the rug out from under you at basically any time.

I'm glad to learn that this is a thing; I've been doing my own cloud like service, VPN and backups using my own home built router/server and the consensus on both Reddit and Lemmy is that I'm foolish for doing so.

Thank you for making me aware that there are others like me so feel about relying on profit seeing parties the same way.

Hey, thank you! Obviously my show is very, very small. I appreciate hearing from listeners, and even fewer people leave a message saying when they are happy. If there is anything in particular you'd like discussed I'm interested as a fellow enthusiast. What are you using for cloud like service and backups? You should also be able to connect with the show on the fediverse at @[email protected]

Riseup is awesome. Been using their etherpad instance for years. Never tried their VPN. disroot.org is also great
