wrote last edited by [email protected]I don't know about that. there has been a huge slew of foreigners coming in and buying up all their affordable land and housing to make AirBnBs. if that were happening in my area I'd hate foreigners too. especially because most are likely not making any effort to fit in with the community and are just creating wealthy expat enclaves taking advantage of the low yen value.

Even in my best dreams, I am not that optimistic.
It's long been said that big advances in science require young people to adopt new ideas and wait for the older scientists with older ideas to die off.
That's the standard for people who dedicate their lives to truth and reason. Comparatively, we're talking about average people in this story here.
They will never change. Our only hope of salvation is trying to improve education so that the next generation to be more rational than the previous generation. Of course, we're failing at that, as well.

I live in Taiwan, so I'm pretty close to Japan. Plane ticket prices to Japan are dropping, and there are rumors also of people leaving (temporarily?) from Japan for this occasion.
So yeah, some people take it seriously
