How many of you use Lemmy and ONLY use Lemmy vs Reddit?
-
boost probably does too, but boost for lemmy is superior. that's what I use
Boost is only for Lemmy now. Boost for reddit was disabled however long ago my account is old.

Is anyone here so hardcore that they don't even bother with mainstream social media? If its not on Lemmy or Mastodon it must not be important? Anyone that hardcore?
Yep. That's me. Ditched all social with reddit last to go but still years ago. I don't feel hardcore... I still get pretty much the same hit w Lemmy n mastodon... w/o the ads n bullshit. And nah I don't think that if its not here its not important... but if it really is important I will find out. So precious little really is truly important. Social media being "vital" is one of those great myths that evaporates quickly when you leave it behind.

The reason I would call reddit social media is that I don't agree with any of those rules
The closest I would agree with is 2, and not based on lack of anonymity but instead on persistence of identity, and that being core to the experience
I was part of subreddits where users knew each other as distinct personalities, and could converse across different threads across time, and occasionally IRL from various meetups
When a website doesn't have a lively and persistent 'local' community (maybe geographic, maybe subject etc) it can't really be social
4chan is social media.

I use Lemmy only, no reddit and no Facebook/Instagram/Twitter etc
Thanks for calling me hardcore

I haven't browsed Reddit since the creation of my Lemmy account (~2years ago); though I've wound up viewing a Reddit thread or two via a google search on rare occasion. Beyond those two, the only other 'social media' I've used in at least a decade is Youtube.
Same here. Most of my reddit usage was on my phone and used baconreader. When they killed 3rd party apps I switched to lemmy. My only reddit usage now is occasionally clicking on reddit links to search results on niche topics. Though i don't do that much on my phone because of the annoyance of reddit constantly requesting to open in app instead of mt browser.
I kinda like that AI scrapes all of reddit as my Kagi searches can summarize reddit results without actually going to reddit.
I also don't use any other social media, such as mastodon. I quit facebook about a decade ago and see zero reason to join anything else.

i don't use social media at all, and i don't consider reddit social media tbh, at least not in the same category. but i don't use reddit either since they fucked the API.

Still on Reddit. I’d be here full time but the content is severely lacking.
-
the only social media I have is Lemmy and mastodon. I prefer Lemmy to mastodon. (I also have kbin)
I quit Facebook, Reddit, Twitter etc. because of content manipulation. They suppress posts against their agenda and promote those for their agenda. I always knew this, but when I realized I was being influenced, I deleted my accounts and quit.
Only things I'll use now are open source, decentralized, and non profit owned. (I'll gladly donate)
Lemmy is also being manipulated, but here it's primarily through users. It's a problem you'll have on any social media, particularly if fully anonymous.

Reddit started having ads and i noped out. Was really only using it for porn lol

I only post or reply on Lemmy.
I don't have a facebook, instagram, snapchat, or twitter account.
I deleted my two reddit accounts after RIF stopped working.
I do have accounts on a couple of car forums so I can ask questions about fixing my car, if that counts.

Nope. I never really used Reddit. I haven't touched Facebook since you needed an .edu email. Never got on any of the other platforms.
Main thing I used to use was just a small forum with a few people I knew for 20+ years until the guy who took over code and server maintenance made it a Nazi safe space.

Is this place really that small?

Currently waiting for it to happen to me.... Their new rules got banned twice now for three days and then seven days.
Didn't even say anything out of the ordinary. What finally got you banned?
I reported a post for severe misandry. Respectfully, I might add. Some loser admin did not like that.
-
I quit reddit 2 years ago and have been Lemmy/kbin/pifed only since.
What are those other things
-
Until Lemmy can offer me the active specialized subs I use reddit for, it's pretty hard to drop it completely.
Ya Reddit is crazy for the amount of people you can find in a Niche community. From a random health condition you may have, to one specific video game that is 20+ years old.
-
I’m banned from Reddit so I’m here and this is my only social media left
You can always just create another account by the way. It takes a moment to get back up and running because of shadow bans, but it is possible
-
I don't know how people can live without niche subs that simply don't exist on lemmy. I read them but I can't participate since reddit fingerprints me no matter what I do and instantly bans my new accounts.
You can create a new Reddit account and get it up and running. Especially if enough time has passed. Create a new account, and comment SLOW, dont make posts, just comment. Once you have like 100+ Karma and an account thats a week old? You are golden!

I still have Stealth, though browsers are probably better since you get more control and therefore privacy
If that app gives a better UI than the web view on mobile, I may switch. Thank you!

Left Reddit almost a year ago and haven’t looked back.

I had seven billion updoots or whatever on reddit. I haven't used it for 2 years.
Also, why is that "hardcore"? You might want to reevaluate your relationshio with social media and computing. If you can't disconnect from it that sounds unhealthy.
