Isn’t he something like third from the top of the church hierarchy? It probably wouldn’t be him so much escaping it as spitting off, setting up his own Reformed Temple of Thetan Science or whatever and taking 2/3 of the church membership with him.

If a religion is a cult where the leadership has forgotten that it's all supposed to be a scam, that's something that just might turn Scientology into an actual religion.

Give it a century, and if it survives, it’ll be like Mormonism (which was obviously a scam when Smith started it, but is now solidly respectable). A millennium or two, and it’s as unimpeachable as Christianity.

I'd debate Mormonism being respectable but I'd also debate it for all Christians so it is what it is
