When I was a kid, I thumbed through my mom’s old copies of Good Housekeeping and Women’s Day magazines from the 1970s… Not much better!

It's always "trust the science" and then you realize the science is bullshit motivated by $$$. Just another example of Pharma paying off docs to script dangerous drugs to patients who trusted them

Its lyrics deal with the popularity of prescribed tranquilisers like Valium among housewives and the potential hazards of overdose or addiction. >

Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like if I was a relatively well to do suburban housewife in the USA circa the 60's and 70's (or maybe a tad earlier). It all just feels so idealized. And even if I still saw behind the charade and could not tolerate the gilded superficiality of it all, I could legally get really good drugs (presumably) so that I simply did not care anymore. Good thing they didn't feature me in that Matrix movie.

We all take the cultural norms of today and then think about what if I went back in time in the 60's. But the thing is that for generations the norms of the 60's were set deep in your way of thinking. The biggest change was safe affordable birth control. It allowed people to have kids, if they wanted any at all, to have them on THEIR schedule and not as a random act of nature. That freed up women to have a career because they could then plan their life out.
