Why are immigrants leaving Germany? A new study shows that other countries are more attractive to economically successful foreigners. Discrimination also plays a major role.

The German economy is weakening — and yet many sectors desperately need skilled workers, including the medical professions, especially nursing, as well as IT, and construction.

Germany also has a shortage of educators, cooks, and people who can drive trucks and buses. At the end of 2024, there were around 1.4 million unfilled positions in German companies nationwide.

At the same time, more and more immigrants are coming to Germany to work. In 2024, the proportion of foreign employees was just over 16%. It has more than doubled since 2010. Employment in medical professions is disproportionately high. More than one in six doctors is a foreign citizen. In nursing, employment growth since 2022 has been exclusively attributable to foreign personnel. Currently, one in five workers in this sector is an immigrant.

        Syria gets rid of Assad

German mainstream politics: "Syria is safe. Deport all the refugees!"

German doctors union: "We have 5,000 Syrian doctors working in our hospitals. Many rural hospitals will have to shut down without the Syrian doctors."

German mainstream politics: "Okay, the doctors can stay as long as they are useful to us. The rest must go."

“But if they say an illegal sentence like “child murder is bad” then we deport them too.”

Know a few people who emigrated to Germany. They aren’t thrilled. One of my friends was basically snubbed by all of his coworkers for months until one of them told him on the side that people suspect they’d get in trouble if it turns out he’s a “Syrian Islamic Extremist” down the line. My guy isn’t Syrian or Muslim. His name is Joe. Not even Youssef. Joe. جو. Fucks sake

“Doctors in Racism” is the way he described the people of Germany. Which is incredible because we’re from Lebanon and “Doctors in Racism” should be our rightful title. Geopolitical events are happening as we speak and people are talking about US stuff and changes in the US since it is so influential on what happens here, and I’ve heard someone say something about “that slave Obama”. This fucking week. Come on now.

FWIW Germany looks like a nice option for me, but I can’t say I’ve been convinced that the good will fully outweigh the bad. If I’m going to be a second class citizen I might as well go to the US and get a shot at making a bit more money.

In the US (so far) the racism by police is worse. However generally people will accept you as a "local" within a year or two. In Germany your great grandparents can have moved to Germany and from your grandparents to you, everyboy can have lived in Germany and you will still be deemed "the foreigner" or "the migrant".

I'd stay clear of Germany and other European countries with a strong far-right unless you only intend to make a quick buck and leave. There's a very real possibility that within 10 years Germany will do the equivalent of electing Trump for a second term.

So, which country would you recommend people go to? Like, where there's no racism?

I never said anything about racism, but I wouldn't recommend a Middle Eastern person go to a country on its way to electing literal neo-Nazis, especially when said neo-Nazis are running on being dicks to people from the Middle East. Japan, one of the more developed Southeast Asian countries or somewhere like Brazil would be better purely from a "can I live here for the next decade" perspective.

If you move to a big city it’s fine, just don’t move to the countryside imo.

E.g. in Berlin I’ve visited a couple times, if you go to Sonnenallee (شارع العرب) you’re not gonna know you’re in Germany anymore. So there you’ll only be involved in all the racism among us but you won’t find any Germans to be racist 😄

I'm not trying to defend fascists in any way shape or form. I'm just saying that unfortunately they're pretty much everywhere these days. And if you go to Japan to avoid racism, you're in for a surprise.
