I only ever had one Ace Combat game, and it must have been before the series got really gnarly because the one I remember was fairly realistic, other than being about 2 fictional countries and having anime-like dialogue and being controlled very arcadey over a more simulation-like style.
Saw a clip of a more recent one (possibly 8, idk) where they were fighting some kind of monster in their jet.

Yellow 13 or Erusea ring any bells? Sounds like you played 4. Controls have stayed similar since then, the arcadey style is still strong in 7. 8 isn't out yet, hence the rituals.

wrote on last edited by [email protected]I am pretty sure I played 4 or 5. It was way back on PS2. Probably 5 because the cover looks very familiar.

Yep. 4 on my PS2 is the only game I've played. Maybe slightly futuristic (there were probably lasers or something), but for the most part, just an F-14 with 220 AIM-9, 128 AIM-120, 2000 rounds of 20mm, and 80 flares. lol.

As a kid/teen I played the hell out of 4 and 5. I revisited the series for 7 and it felt like they left a lot of storytelling out. Gameplay(combat and controls) was still great though.

I liked playing Ace Combat 7 on the Steam Deck when I'm on an actual airplane during takeoff. I pull up when the airplane takes off so that the G-forces are simulated in game.

Mobius 1, engage.
