What happened to feddit.de?

Several things:

• The original admin has disappeared.
• The co-admin lost access to the server by misplacing the SSH key.
• Since nothing was updated, everything broke one after the other (first pict-rs, then lemmy-ui)
• After a few discussions, it was decided to set up a new server under feddit.org with the help of the austrian fediverse.foundation
• Since nobody took care of the DNS entries, they expired and feddit.de is history.

It’s unfortunate to see how quickly things can unravel when key access and maintenance are neglected. Losing admin control and letting DNS entries expire is a tough lesson in digital infrastructure management. It’s a good reminder—whether you're running a community platform or managing production like we do in China CNC machining—that consistent oversight and backup planning are essential to keep things running smoothly.
