Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom
truely disgusting, made me want to vomit, but damn if it didnt teach me more about the human experience, empathy, perspective and love
edit: im gonna add more as i think of them.
Full Metal Jacket
first watched this while on acid, the first half scared me pretty immensely. i have always been anti authority, but watching this and seeing such pure voluntary subjugation really hurt, to me its about more than war (obviously), its about human struggle and an understanding of why we do the things we do.

I’m far from the first to feel this way about it, but Requiem for a Dream. I was already not interested in hard drug use before the film, but after, I understand just why you never go near it.

Breakfast Club. I saw it in the 80s, and loved it, but thought I'd never watch it again. I put it on again during COVID and while it still holds up, I definitely won't watch it a third time. Past is prologue, and all.

Primer. It's a movie about time travel, and it's absolutely amazingly done. But it's also mind-bending and not that exciting.
