I don't know, every news story I read on this said "Mastercard and Visa". I don't see how whether they are technically considered "processors" or "networks" matters to me or the issue.

I’ll inform myself further on the subject but it sounds weird that visa and mastercard would ban those things. You’re able to purchase pornhub subscriptions with your visa/mastercard card (which can only go through the designated network on your card), so why wouldn’t you be able to purchase other type of adult games? So far all instances I’ve seen of banning have been from payment processors. Saw a post where a network said that they accept anything that’s legal

Surely they are being pressured by the governments, right?

Would you rather they had shut down because nobody is able to pay them anymore? They complied with the demands for the time being because they have a business to run - and then they immediately started looking for a solution.

I don't believe people fault itch.io or steam for what they did. You can be upset with an action and still understand why it was done. It's the same mental allowance you would give to someone if they agreed to cover your shift but the morning of their kid got sick and you had to come in anyway. Sure, you're upset but you also understand that someone would need to take care of their kid.

So we can be upset that NSFW games were delisted. But the other options would be them only getting paid through physically bought Steam and Itich.io gift cards.

Not to mention their little gaslighting memos they sent out trying to say it wasn't them that told them they wouldn't process those payments.

Maybe it is time for an anti-trust investigation.

From my opinion it clearly seems that the payment processors got scared and preventively banned those games while saying it was network rules, while the network refutes those claims.

Damn, am I really going to have to start going to bank regularly, getting cash from the cashier, and boycotting card-only places.

Meh, I guess I've nowt better to with my time.

Try to find cash discounts too, so you don't subsidize other people's credit card usage.

Your original post sounds like a nitpick about the term "processor", not about who is actually responsible (which you aren't actually certain about either). Idk, maybe elaborate next time.

Sure but simply saying "they still did X (oh wait they walked back part of X)" doesn't really sound understanding but accusatory.

They're not payment processors. Not saying they're not at fault for anything, but the whole fucking payments industry is complicated as hell with a ton of different layers between different companies and anyone of them could've been the ones to cause this issue. People are just circle jerking on Visa and MC because they're the biggest dogs in the chain

That's what is infuriating to me, don't point your fingers at a random company and say they're responsible if you don't know

afaik Valve and Itch have not disclosed the names of their payment processors, so no way for me to know, and companies could lie anyways

sure, but far too much trust is given on some journalistic sources which just spread a potential lie without checking further

All data carriers, like ISPs, payment processors, email services, etc. should have NO control, nor even oversight or input, over the content of their transmission or the purposes thereof.

Imagine if all roads were privately own and they wanted to know every detail about those traveling on their roadways. Origin and destination, every detail about you, about your vehicle, what you have in your car, etc. And imagine they could decide that certain cars were allowed on their roads, you weren't allowed to use their roads to get to certain destinations, they get lobbied by bigots to not allow gays to drive on their roads, or people that have porn in their vehicle. There's no public alternative, and sometimes no private alternative, and even private alternatives do the exact same thing... if we wouldn't allow that sort of surveillance, interference, and autocratic control with or means of movement, why should we allow it with our means of trade.
