What's a really popular TV show you just couldn't get into?

The vast majority of them as I don't really watch movies or tv-series at all. Every time I give one a chance it ends up being a dissapointment and then I'm just less likely to try again.

It's a great series but I agree, there's a lot of depressing vibes. I binged it recently and ended up being getting paranoid riding trains haha
I watched it cause it was interesting to explore a scenario where the top 1% was targeted, especially considering what's happening in the world right now.

The Leftovers. Tried twice.
On my second try I enjoyed it...until the final season.
The show probably got different writers at that point. Whatever happened, everything previously built was just scrapped. It's like they made a list of random outlandish ideas, then shuffled and tried to connect them.
If they had brought it all home it would have been a good, offbeat kind of show.

They lost me when they introduced so many new city characters in one episode and it became too much about teen romance and rebellion. I think this was start of second season.
Oh, when eleven runs away to the city? It gets even better: none of that shit comes back up again.
But it absolutely does keep leaning into teen romance. I always felt it was a decent show but overrated, and it dropped off hard.

office, walking dead, ISAIP season 13+ only, Nutrek its just so bad and its a disrespect to the continuity of the franchise and roddenberrry, plus KURTZMAN has said he doesnt care about consistency(it was pretty clearly when your stealing or lifitng material directly from memory wiki alpha and beta site), which why it became pure garbage. GOT, ROP i assume people also think its terrible too.
The office is very worth, you just have to struggle through season 1. 2 and beyond are fucking gold and very rewatchable.

So my intuition was correct. I have realised that I am the beat judge of what content I will like. Reviews are useless because 99% of the time highly rated things are mediocre.

Yeah, I did attempt to watch it a couple of times when it was still airing new seasons, but those first couple of episodes were just so boring, I couldn't get myself to continue.
And then of course it ended with the known flop and then I lost all interest in even attempting gain.

If you haven't already, you should give the spin offs a chance. Neither my wife or I can stand Yellowstone (we struggled through the first season and then gave up), but 1883 and 1923 are both fantastic shows.
What made the difference for you for the spin-offs?

How I Met Your Mother. Most laugh track comedies I found barely tolerable at best but that show fucking sucked major ass and I don’t trust the judgement of anybody who liked that show.

Game of Thrones. I stopped watching when Aquaman raped the blonde.
Then I started reading the books. the rape scene was written slightly different, so...whatever. Then I got to the part where the brother/sister threw the boy out the window. Done. Violence against kids is my line.
spoilers but if you had stuck around you get to see the guy who pushed him out the window get his comeuppance. he spends the next season as a prisoner of war and gets his sword hand cut off. it changes him almost completely
but then again thats not the only scene in the series with violence against kids so maybe it was best to stop there

The Arrowverse stuffI dunno man. I just couldn't get into the serialized urban fantasy pretty people vs monster of the week genre, even thought it feels like it should be right up my ally. I used to play a TON of V:tM and WW:tA, and Im all about camp and community theater energy. I liked some of the other Whedon stuff at the time, like Firefly. And I'm a life long fan of all things super heroes and I even respect Arrowverse from a far for its commitment to its status as a multimedia project (before the MCU, even).
More recently, some similarly themed shows have been made and I got into them way more; What We Do In The Shadows and Stan Against Evil, and I think maybe the magic sauce was that I would have liked the energy paired something less earnest and more tongue in cheek. All of these shows also had the issue of really annoying fandoms. Its probably the reason I couldn't lower my hackles around Doctor Who.

I'm sorry! I'm a trekkie so I really wanted to love it. I can't stand Seth McFarlane, though, and apparently it isn't just his animated shows like Family Guy or American Dad that I hate.

EDIT: I saw you said you watched up until s1e7 in another comment. That episode in particular annoyed me for being a worse version of the Black Mirror s3e1 episode Nosedive. It's worth trying some later season episodes if you ever get the chance to see if you like them any better. And check out Nosedive as well!
