    Red would be a terrible primer color for white.

    I assumed a sense of humor, but wearing down to the primer/previous paint job makes sense.

    That's just the colour a lot of primers are, it's the same reason most ship's hulls are red.

                    Colour is the British English spelling of American English's Color. Just like Flavour is the equivalent for Flavor.
