Car community shenanigans dump (open post)

Sweet, mine is proper. TIL my basement is also a proper garage.
My grandpa was a high school shop teacher after serving in WWII, so I have an absolute gob of early power tools and, more importantly, a ton of manual tools. I love using the manual tools. They take for-fucking-ever, but they don’t intimidate me the way power tools do.
My grandpa also did various mechanical jobs after WWII. It was wild going through stuff when we moved them in with us

Ah yes, a micropenis only a mother could love

Did you come across a bunch of power tools where the cord screws in to the base, so it’s real easy to replace?
Like the tools come full apart, that’s insane! They also probably had guides with them to fix them!
Like I can probably still use those shock factories! I certainly do not -want- to use them, even though they almost certainly still work (other than maybe corrosion), but the documentation to repair them probably still exists and that’s amazing!!

That one with the clutch is definitely a shitpost lol
But the others… must be hard to pee with that.

It probably is, but technical the clutch is only required for getting the initial gear in. And even that can be ignored on some Cars.

You’re totally correct! But I think this is like "cleaning dirt off motherboards using destilled water" where arguing with those who don’t know is pointless.

One thing about the 350Z bit. When you have a two-door sports car, the doors tend to be noticeably longer than any four-door, and that does make it harder to get out when someone parks too close. Having had a 370Z in the past (which is basically the same frame as the 350Z), this is definitely the case there. I have an NC Miata now, and even on that the doors are longer than you might think.
By the looks of it, 350Z guy could have parked closer to the front of the lot if he wanted. He didn't, on purpose, and still got jammed in for no reason.
Two door sports cars with back seats especially, the Camaro I was raised in had doors that must have been 5 feet long.

Americans haven’t had garages for 30 years. They have on-site storage units. Some of which can fit a car.
I still want Dirk Pitt's house: A studio apartment above a large aircraft hangar.

clutch is only required for getting the initial gear in
Is that still the case for modern synchro cars?

As i have not driven anything past 2010 i can only tell you that those didnt care, but you are probably creating more wear on the synchros. Espescially if you arent proficent in rev matching.
Anything i have driven was verry happy with gear leaving, but less so with getting in.
I probably get home without clutch and then it dosent really matter if i have to replace the clutch and the synchros
