Fucking fascists and their number obsessions. I don't get it.

Edit: before anyone replies, I do know what the numbers mean. I mean the obsession of using them to display their facism.

Isn't it like a dog whistle? It can only be understood by those that know. Of course that's not the case anymore but I wouldn't have known until it was pointed out to me some time ago. And it's not just numbers either.

I mean to some extent maybe, but what is the alternative? Not call a Nazi out for being a Nazi?

I already don't shop there and I tell people not to shop there. Bigger question to me is why is a subreddit that is still cosplaying as progressive, allowing ads for a Nazi? Or anywhere else. That's the bigger fish. Pressure people to stop allowing Nazis to advertise.

I'm saying that's why he did it. It's guaranteed to be talked about and he can pretend to not know what he did. There's nothing wrong with calling it out and telling people not to shop there. It's actually a good thing.

I agree, but I do think he legit did it as both a dog whistle to his fellow Nazis and to some extent bc he sees controversy for his store as a good thing.

Most of the people who would choose not to shop there probably already stopped shopping there after the Jan. 6th stuff. Rather than give him too much attention, at this point I think it's better to start going after people who continue to associate him.

He's made his preferences pretty clear. If you want to be a Nazi, nothing I can do to stop you other than continue to not shop at your store. With your preferences so clearly stated though, I do have to wonder why other businesses that I rely on are continuing to associate with you and help you advertise.

Is the local paper that includes flyers for Rouses saying that they're ok with Nazis as long as they pay? What about the TV and radio stations that continue to run ads? Reddit loves to pretend they're still a liberal space despite all the evidence to the contrary. Here's more evidence, so why are you allowing a Nazi to promote himself using your platform?

They used to have a need to speak in codes and hide their beliefs under fear of death. We need to go back to that time.

14/88 is a hate symbol used by Nazis:

Please don’t link to the ADL. They are a sham organization that openly supports genocide.

I’m not clear from the tweet that the ads are Reddit-generated ads, it seems like someone is posting a photo of the newspaper ad insert.

This isn't the ad this is a different user who posted about this ad in their newspaper.

Their weekly ad was just posted today.

"A local subreddit runs advertisements" implied to me that it was either an individual user posting it or the subreddit mods themselves. Otherwise, specifying that the ads were run in that specific sub seemed unnecessary. Could be wrong, but the OP itself doesn't seem like a Reddit ad either (single image rather than a webpage or something)

This image is just somebody on the subreddit pointing out the 1488 reference.

The weekly ads posted to the sub are by a different "user", but I do find it odd that the post asking about the 1488 flyer seems to be permadownvoted, and got brigaded by people claiming the OP was insane for even asking about it. I believe one person claimed OP was "schizophrenic."

Bc during a time when there's a guy with a swastika tattoo in the white house, you would clearly have to be "insane" to question if a Jan 6er might feel emboldened enough to run a local ad that served as a dog whistle.

Their ideology is embedded in the numbers. It’s also how African American gangs communicate concepts.

So much of American internet culture is rooted in imperialist lore and Nazi beliefs, like the Pepe frog, KEK, and the monkey NFTs

$14.88 is a very suspicious price for meat and a 'crazy 88 cent sale' is basically confirmation.

If it isn't ibtentional then someone setting prices needs to learn how to avoid dogwhistles. But I'm just going to assume the worst because it usually is.

That and H is the 8th letter of the alphabet, so 88 means HH which means heil hitler.

No seriously, it is that dumb.

Symbology, magic, supernatural. Looking at crosses, swastikas, an (unopened) book that says “Bible” on the front. Stickers on trucks, flags everywhere, songs they play at rallies when they never actually understand what the lyrics mean.

More proof that they’re all about feels, what a symbol elicits for them, without having to engage in thought. Symbols distill that feel into something compact and thoughtless. Even if it’s just a few numbers. Don’t think. Conform.

My local Costco prices everything at 88 cents because it's in a heavily Chinese neighborhood and the number 8 is considered lucky to them.

It's not always a dog whistle. But in this particular case it might be. 🤷🏼‍♂️
