There's no Burning Man community yet for SOME UNKNOWN REASON
All the EDM communities are dead including the one I made.

Is anyone else just enjoying seeing people create actual user names again and not just using the automatically generated ones reddit has done for awhile?
I gave up on doing that after a few bans, coming up with an original username was getting difficult.
On here, you have more faith that you will be using the same name for a while.

I also think more general communities (gaming, music) are what we need now, then later given enough growth, they will break into more specialized ones.

That's true. But it's the numbers that will really tell the story if lemm.ee grows and how it grows. That's why it's far more telling in the months ahead and not some random single day.

Without a critical mass of people, niche communities tend to have very few posts and comments. I wish there were more general communities like the early days of reddit instead of going straight into hundreds of dead communities.

Beware of that one, it's got... "issues", and is not a great recommendation for someone trying to get away from the exact same type of stuff happening on Reddit.
Ah thanks for the heads up. As I mentioned I'm new to lemmy & still figuring stuff out. Definitely worried about the censorship that the right wing loves so much.

Beware the fake communism, “tankie” triad of hexbear.net (or wherever they moved to, after they forgot to renew their own domain name)
they managed to keep the domain in the end, I think they transferred to a different DNS landlord
Also it's not fake communism, it's pretty normal for anyone outside of terminally online circles, like I'm active in anarchist organizing and I've had plenty of comrades who would get called a tankie by you lot like it's some thoughtcrime
