I like to do this too. I liken it to a parent saying they're not mad, just disappointed.

But I don't know that I've ever had anyone get ridiculously angry about it.

It's because you're explicitly declaring that they do not have your approval, instead of just being pissed off, which is easier to dismiss.

And what benefit is there in upsetting someone else purposely, regardless of what they did? Seems it will only aggravate the situation instead of deescalating it.

The moment you calmly express your disapproval, you've shown yourself to be the mature adult in the situation. Trust me, it pisses people off at times, but it's also the better way to produce positive change in people. I do it online all the time! πŸ˜…

I mean, those lacking in empathy and critical thinking skills need to learn through pain. A thumbs down ain't anything they can hold on to and rationalize to excuse themselves of the guilt, so it will produce changes more efficiently. And why must I raise adult children? Because it's the right thing to do (and their parents/themselves didn't do it), both for society and for themselves. They might not realize it today (again, they're immature), but being a better human being benefits primarily oneself. πŸ‘
