ISO SelfhostI mean, you’re right here.
Thank you I thought I was going insane. It's not Reddit levels of activity, but I'd say this is pretty dang active. Stats on the right show almost 600 users a day, ~7k a month, almost 100k comments...

What people online think I drive when I mention owning a pickup truck versus what I actually driveYes I could, because you use your truck, so I'm glad. You are one of the few. The vast majority of truck owners would do one of those things maybe once a month, and that's wasteful and posturing.

What people online think I drive when I mention owning a pickup truck versus what I actually driveHonestly vans are so much better to move with. Can move so much more, and don't have to worry about the rain.

[Discussion] What would it take to selfhost some of the backend that Tesla's connect to?Yeah it'd be a LOT of constant wireshark and reverse engineering to figure out every API it calls. Then probably something in the middle to sit on the host, need to figure out https certs since you'd be spoofing the host, and of course making sure you get the responses absolutely correct.
Not impossible, but it's not trivial anymore either.

What people online think I drive when I mention owning a pickup truck versus what I actually driveThat's how you know it's all for show. People casually forget you can rent trucks for 20 dollars a day too. "Oh well I'm glad I have it for towing and moving". Bull. How often do you tow really? And even then I'd expect it to sit at home most of the time. Moving? Once a year. Rent a truck. I go to home Depot and rent theirs when I need it.
Buying a truck like that shows you are way too worried about what people think of you, you have to feel "big", which usually means you're a small man, and probably bad with money.
