Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted. This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate. We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history. This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you’re submitting before posting to see if it’s already been posted. We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed. No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don’t share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine. We don’t want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

    I think the hardware has a lot of promise, but it's fair to say that at this very instant there aren't many exclusives to justify it if you aren't excited about Mario Kart.

    The Console Arena is totally one sided to a select few companies. If other companies could enter and put a dent into Nintendo and the like. We'd be in a much better situation.

    I haven't played it myself, but reddit told me it's actually anti-soviet as it portrays the dangers of that system or authoritarism. Think of it like 1984. Any truth to that?

    I have owned every Nintendo console, but skipped on the first Switch because I was a bit upset with how they treated the Wii U.

    Yeah, ultimately it's a matter of personal discretion. Mainly I think we're at the point where new consoles, now including the Switch, are more like upgrading your PC. Get the newer model to run existing games better. Games are going to be releasing for both Switch and Switch 2 for a while, so there's not much incentive to upgrade unless the very small list of Switch 2 exclusives is enticing right now. But if someone's priority is playing through older games in higher quality now that it is possible to do so without pirating, there are a lot of reasons to upgrade. It took several years for PS5 to get to the point where it was probably worth it for exclusives alone (and may still not even be there yet for many), but it was worth getting day 1 if there were PS4 games someone wanted to play at higher resolutions and/or framerates, and they didn't mind the price. Actually on the topic of price, also worth acknowledging that the market is a bit fucked, and existing consoles have only gone up in price since release, in complete disregard for earlier trends where they usually drop in price over time, so that could be a other reason for someone to want to get in on it early.

    You should! It's a very solid game with a fun story. Just don't play like my group did and end up on NG+9 on the hardest difficulty. We JUST quit the game two weeks ago to move onto other games, but now this drops. Lol figures.

    I think tech is far along now that there’s a space for something that is “best of both worlds”. Something that Valve has been trying for a while yet was only successful with the Steam Deck because tech just wasn’t there yet. Think about it like this: instead of making a whole Xbox based build, devs simply make the PC version of their game and within that PC version they make a series of graphical presets that are the Xbox version, and another one that is the handheld version. This would lower costs for them while Microsoft focuses on building a windows OS that is gaming focused and suspends all the crap that hogs performance. For you the Xbox would work pretty much the same as it always has except you can now also play Steam, GOG or Epic store games if you want (with the risk of jank). The downside of this is that the next Xbox will 100% not be subsidized if it uses this model, so be ready to pay $700 for it. Microsoft’s track record is not great at this type of “fork” but I think for them as a company this path makes more sense than selling subsidized hardware that doesn’t move software because it doesn’t sell well. They can now sell software everywhere and if you want a more optimized experience you can buy their box.

    Apparently, it's not a completely new soundtrack. It's a mix of the original soundtrack, completly new songs & artists, but also different tracks from returning artists featuring in the original, apparently those are changes suggested by Tony himself. Although some are probably licensing issues I would guess ? And Jake Baldino who got to preview the game said he found them pretty good.

    That's understandable. It's been like that since the late 80's with Nintendo. I was born in1976 and I've seen some stuff in my lifetime.

    Maybe by Christmas I'll be interested, but for now the switch 2 is just a fancy new restaurant that only serves a few pricy side dishes alongside food I can enjoy anywhere else in town.
