Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted. This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate. We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history. This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you’re submitting before posting to see if it’s already been posted. We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed. No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don’t share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine. We don’t want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

I'm still mad Galaxy doesn't support Linux. I'd probably still use Heroic, but the mere fact of being a second class citizen doesn't feel great.

His team was also burnt out after working on BG3 after such a long time, Sven respected the wishes of his team over the lure of making more money. It's important to remember, Sven actually cares about the team he's assembled over short term profit. Screw Hasbro any day of the week is such a mood, but, not an inciting incident that lead to Sven making his choice.

The vive and some reviews I've seem made me buy it blindly. Currently downloading. Looks promising, and seems to be OK enough on the deck.

Ive never kickstarted anything and most of the projects I would have donated to are dead now so I made a good choice.

I remember Krater! I played it for a while and I liked the atmosphere, but I only got so far before I saw how... 1-dimensional it was? I don't know how exactly to put it into words, but some games that aren't so good I have a "see behind the curtain" moment. Once that happens I tend to quickly get turned off to a game because I feel like it's not fun anymore. In Krater that happened when I realized that all the fights were essentially the same and equipment was all stat sticks with no unique qualities. Pretty much what your characters did at the beginning of the game was what they did at mid game with no noteworthy changes. There were other characters you could sub in and that changed things up a little but the repetitiveness of it all really ruined it for me. I agree that's a really good example of a "meh" game and I think 5/10 is a very fair assessment.

It comes from the FFG Star wars RPG system and its method of creating multiple success/failure conditions. It's an entirely independent system to the light/dark side force mechanics. That's fair if it's not solving a problem for you, but it does add something new that resonates with a lot of people (at least it did for me). I'm speaking from the Genesys side so I don't know how daggerheart handles it, but I absolutely loved it. I found it made skill checks more collaborative, my table would suggest ideas for how to interpret the roll, and having more to 'explain' got people more descriptive in how they talk about their actions. We went from 'I take a swing. Nope, that's a miss' to 'failure with advantage, ok I go in with my axe but I can't get through this guy's defenses. For my advantage, I want to hook this guys shield with my axe so the next attacker gets a boost die to hit'. It does make checks more involved, but I prefer fewer, more impactful checks as a general rule anyway.

Heck yeah, I remember building out and optimizing my PC to squeeze every frame I could out of Arma 3 back when it released. I have such fond memories of that game, I played tons of casual multiplayer games and Arma 3 Project Life which was a really well done invite only life roleplay game mode (before the developers killed the community by being dicks).

Not so much "remade" but the engine was open-sourced and it's been kept up-to-date for modern computers. Exact same levels, graphics, sound effects as it ever was, but obviously the resolution now is much higher than it was in the early nineties. Think my graphics card can push it at 4K 144Hz while still being in power-saving mode; it does more work rendering desktop fonts nicely. There's also a port of Pathways Into Darkness onto the engine, if you want to play it? It's a real bitch to emulate a classic Mac to get it running, but this is basically drag-and-drop. It was brutally unfair even at the time, and contains a lot of features which have not aged well and are distinctly un-fun - it is not a game that's afraid to waste your time, put it like that. I do love the idea of it - the atmosphere of it is probably the best bit, and I'd love a modern remake of it. https://lochnits.com/aopid/
