Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted. This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate. We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history. This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you’re submitting before posting to see if it’s already been posted. We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed. No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don’t share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine. We don’t want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

It looks fun, i feel like the roster is really starting to get bloated though if we've reached the point where a dead fish and cow were needed to be made into characters just to meet the roster quota

Geoguesser is basically a game testing the knowledge of places, if you filter that into a "style" by a machine that know no culture and producing a picture that mostly looks identical, what's the point?

You could argue that Doom was always more fantasy focused than sci if, but it doesn’t really matter. Doom doesn’t need to be about the same thing forever. They already had some fantasy/medieval vibes with enemies like marauders, those awesome swords, and some of the visual designs of the areas. I think they saw that it worked and decided to expand on it. IMO, it probably always needs to be about high-octane demon killing. If it stays true to that, it can still be called Doom.

Stalker Anomaly is available to download for free on moddb.com, and its actually a modded version of the original games. but GSC has allowed them to redistribute the game for free.
  • The only thing "convoluted" about this whole announcement was pricing.

Maybe I’m just getting old, but I was very bored and underwhelmed during the entire presentation even before the terrible pricing reveal. I like the mouse joycons and the Donkey Kong game. That’s about it.
  • Those are not the same thing?

I have never cared about winning Internet arguments, nor I have been surprised with such a reply, so there is a first time for everything I guess. My point is that there's no reason to think the Switch 2 can't be emulated on the Deck, at least not until we get more information. Also there is not a reason to believe that it will emulate Switch 2 games... What I can almost guarantee is that it won't be as smooth as it does with Switch 1 games, unless we talk about less demanding games ofc. The Steam Deck supports 4k60 just fine, just not on the built-in display ofc. TIL, so docked emulation could be something (I suppose it gets more power plugged in as well).

I'm pretty excited for this feature honestly, I know a lot of games won't use it but still it's gonna be fun.

I wish Mini Motorways was on Android. I like it a lot better than Mini Metro, but it's the kind of game I want to play on my phone. Goddamn Apple Arcade exclusivity deals
  • It's not convoluted at all.

I agree that Nintendo was ahead of the curve when it came to expanding portable gaming, but the only reason the switch sold so many units, and ultimately got so many games ported to it, was because of Nintendo first party titles. If you look at the best selling switch titles, the vast majority of them are Nintendo games. Without Nintendo first party titles, the switch would have been far outsold by better devices.

Many thanks for this! Really puts the console gaming hobby into perspective. My two biggest take-aways: Holy shit, that Atari 2600 was expensive! Really explains why the PlayStation 3 stumbled out of the gate, oof!

I once played XCOM 2 with a stylus. Ended up adding a 6DOF mouse for thether hand because bouncing around the map without it was atrocious. Gamepads rule. There are one-handed ones as well.

Do you think they already priced in the federal govts tariffs? If so, the price still hurts but not as much

Eurogamer.net - Chris Tapsell - 3 / 5 Not that South of Midnight is a disappointing game - far from it - but that it's such a shame for it to get so close to being something so genuinely special. This is a game of just remarkable craft - we've not even mentioned the stop-motion style of animation! It's lovely - and likewise remarkable attention, thought, and care. If only just a little more of that care had been afforded to the playing of it.
